Ooh - me thinks I spot a decent number of Malts. That bar is even better than the Whisky Shop on Rose Street in Edinburgh.
Sitting drinking the last of a cask strength Talisker I was given for fixing a laptop. Brings back memories of when I worked there.
I'd love to go to Islay - iirc there's 8 active distilleries on the one Island.

Some years ago in Inverness I was talking to 2 Australians who had visited every distillery which took visitorson the Whisky Trail. They then started on those that did not take visitors. They were always told, "Sorry we do not take visitors." but were given two or three miniatures eachas a goodwill gesture. At the end of their stay they had to buy a bag to carry the booty. Very enterprising!!

I do not think I would have the energy to handle a tour like that, but I’d certainly give it a try!
Until then, I will stick with my Laphroaig. I’ve tried Bowmore, Caol Ila, Glenlivet, and Glenfiddich, but always return to the peaty taste I love; Laphroaig. I realize there’s plenty more to sample, and if I make to the isles, I may, but hey, just like a Volvo, once you’ve found what you like, why try others?

Dear Bill,
I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your remembering me as The Single Malt Addict J@p, I mean, The Single Malt Enthusiast..... It has to be, yes it has to be single malt distilled in Scotland, preferably the Speyside region. I used to prefer the Low Land region but after having tried The Glenlivet 18 Years Old, there's no going back. In Harry Potter there is a drink named Fire Whiskey and I think The Glenlivet was the model.....J.K Rawling must be one of the enthusiasts...... However, my image of Scotch whiskey is rather silk than fire.
>The onlydrawback is you could die of thirst before making your choice.
I died.
I was actually attracted to that mid-age lady in the picture (she could take less make-up), and I spotted a couple of Japanese brands as well. The only Japanese single malt distillery I recognise is the City of Yoichi in Hokkaido, which is the northernmost island in Japan. Other distilleries in Japan are cr@p; they know precisely how to ruin the moment[8D].
BTW, I was out of the forum for a while. I just replaced the HDD in my laptop and I was sick in bed for about 10 days[X(].
So, as you can tell my next trip would be the flight from Narita, Japan to Heathrow then a train ride to the Speyside region.....
Cheers,
JPN

JPN,
Hope you have recovered. I am replacing my HDD in a couple of days and need to know if your sickness was related to the changeover!!
I rememberedreading that you like a 'tipple', as, I think, do several of your fellow countrymen. I only tried Japanese whisky once, don't know the brand, but was not impressed.
I have been missing for the last six days touring Yorkshire trying to find a Yorkshire Pudding Trail but failed miserably.

RE: Single Malt Lovers - Eat Your Hearts Out!
Hi Bill,
I was again out of the forum for several days. This time I've been busy finding ways to donate for those who were struck by the earthquake in Northern Japan. BTW, the only Japanese single malt I accept is those distilled in Yoichi, Hokkaido whose climate is identical to that of Scotland. Jim Murray applauded Yoichi and said it was one of the 6 best single malts in the world. As far as I'm concerned, however, I'll stick to genuine Scotch.
I also did some research and one Japanese whiskey (30 years old) was for US $10,000. They must have been drinking something illegal.
Impression notes:
- The Glenlivet 16 Years Old Nadurra (cask strength, non chill-filtered):
Strong as a straight shot (cask strength 59.7) but becomes silky mellow with a rock of ice. Has unusually light colour, almost crystal clear. This one will make you smile.
- The Glenlivet Archive 21 Years Old:
Multi-layered deep flavour. I feel I'm a bit too young (35) to fully understand the flavour of this premium single malt. But with a rock of ice it becomes silky smooth with hints of fruits, syrup, or even chocolate. Dark appearance.
And yes Eric I would love to discuss with you the Cd of busses and seek ways to reduce it down to 0.28
Will be back on a regular basis after I'm done with all the chores I'm tied up with at the moment.
Happy July 4th to those in the United States. God bless America.

Sorry Bull, call me non-traditional or just a plain heretic or a new world ningcompoop,I agree with JPN on putting a dash of ice in scotch {*~O) To me it brings out the slight flavours. Having a sensitive taste, I have to tame strong goods.
JPN, some one is already on to the vette bus.Check this out.

RE: Single Malt Lovers - Eat Your Hearts Out!
I am now a bit drunk with Laphroaig-10 (Islay) &The Macallan-12 (Speyside).
I will be saving for a bottle of The Glenlivet-25.
The word "Glen" means valley.
Been reading a book on single malt lately. I may order the book written by Michael Jackson (no, not that child molesterversion[8D]).

RE: Single Malt Lovers - Eat Your Hearts Out!
Glenmorangie is located in the Highland region. The Nectar seems reasonably priced. The Japanese web site I checked says that the Nectar is good for after-meal drink.
I shall patronise my favourite The Glenlivet. The 16-year old Nadurra has so far been the best, I liked it better than the Archive-21. The 25 is approx $300 so I would have to save for a year. Islay malt is a bit too smoky/peaty for me but not bad.
S70d, welcome to the dark side. I may want to have a talk with your dad.

RE: Single Malt Lovers - Eat Your Hearts Out!
I just picked up a bottle of, Laphroaig 10 yr. single malt.
Trying something new here and I got the idea from one of your previous posts.
I have been done working sing 9:30am today, so I think it is time to try it. LOL
Under $50 here, so I said what the heck.
