1992 Volvo 944T - drilled out air box, Thrush muffler, Garrent T3 Turbo from 89 740 Turbo, iridium plugs, K&N drop-in filter ~ 120MPH

1998 Jeep Cherokee - K&N drop-in filter, NAPA performance plug wires, iridium plugs ~ 110MPH (took too long to get up, sure it can go faster, but ran out of road)

2001 Volvo S60 T5 - TBD (:p)

2004 Volvo S60R -> PhMIC -> 3" DP -> Elevate Tune running 21 PSI ~ 140 MPH and could have gone faster if I did not run out of road.

2011 Subaru Legacy 2.5i -> No Mods ~ 120 MPH

fcpgroton, I'd like to see what the S60R can do. I hear the 01 T5 tops at 155, but only because of an electronic governor

I unfortunately do not have the SR anymore. The AWD took a dump because of the extra power so I traded it in for the Legacy. With the tune I had, it took away the governor so it probably would have done at least 180 MPH.

stock-1998 s70 t5- 110
stock- 2008 Ford Ranger- 105

97 850 T5, K&N panel filter,silicone hoses.
140MPH twice, had a little left but no straightaways long and "safe" enough on stock boost.

99 Camry 4cyl. Stock. 115MPH once "drafting", 113MPH governed. 10s of times throughout the 7 years of ownership.

Stock 94 850 Turbo a little over 130 and it had just shifted to OD at 127. Would have hit 150 I'm sure, but I shut down. Thank goodness too because a cop was going the other direction, saw me, U turned and came up behind me. He got me at 82 mph. When his lites came on behind me I thought I was going to jail.

Well i got 160 on my Honda Civic 2004.

99 C43 (no longer with us) 145
not a car but... 02 ZX-12 184, started getting un-easy about cars getting on the highway and backed off..

AMG E55 360hp 5.6 V8 way to quick for me, not my car I was working for airport parking company and parking facility was 10 miles away. Did not take long to do 10 miles :D

2009 honda cbr all stock -170mph

1993 eagle talon es 2.0l na stock 132mph car came with no governor and would of kept goin faster. 1987 chevy celebrity stock tops at 80mph yay go 3 speed transmissions. 96 Volvo 850R 115mph but that was just cruise speed I had just bought in Chicago and was on my way back to Utah non stop man that was a drive!

I've been watching this thread a little and I must say that I'm apprehensive in posting my numbers. I can just see a ticket showing up in SOMEONE'S mail box or something.

I kinda dreamed of opening up my yellow T-5R on I-40 but I really don't think that's possible. To many other cars on the road all the time, to many cops, bla bla bla. I took it to Drag Max in Charlotte once. A few blasts up to 120 and quickly backed off. It was still pulling pretty strong when I hit 120.

Anyway, I "knew a guy" that said his fastest was in a '95 Honda Prelude. "He" was doing about 125-127ish. The car felt like it was barely on the not-so-perfect 2 lane highway out in the rice fields of Arkansas. Had the sunroof open, sounded like an airplane (pretty cool).

"He" had a 740 GLE pegged out at about 105. Real brick.

"He" also had 960 pegged out at 116 - 118. Car was loaded and simply would not go any faster.

"He" had the S70 GLT up to about 117 teaching a newer Nissan Maxima a lesson. Car was loaded with 3 adults. I think it seen 128 or 13? on the GPS memory (not me, my daughter had the thing - I guess someone that drove her car likes speed more than some. She had my yellow for a week in the country roads of Arkansas, someone probably broke that 120 record.).

I think it's best done on a near abandoned 2 lane highway out in the middle of nowhere.

My #1 bucket list item............. Go drive in the BBORR in Texas, hopefully next year in the wagon (since they have NO VOLVO representation).

Remove or raise the speed limit...
 

I think they should remove the speed limit from many highways. It really would not be that big a deal to do. Just set up some reasonable rules:

1. Anyone wanting to drive higher than the posted speed limit would have to get a special license permit, like a CDL.
2. You would have to sport a special license plate.
3. You would have to pay a yearly or one time fee, something like $1,000.
4. You would have to attend special driving classes every 5 years to maintain the permit.
5. Part of your training require you to commit not to speed on populated highways (or while they were populated). Example: If you are on a interstate and there are no other cars within 1/4 mile in your lanes, you should be able to do whatever you'd like. If there are other cars around you would have to slow down to within 10 mph of the posted speed limit.
6. No passing other cars in excess of 10 mph of the posted limit. If the speed limit is 70 mph, you can not pass anyone faster than 80 mph.
7. Your car would have to pass a yearly inspection that would not exceed $100.
8. If you got caught breaking the rules you would loose your permit for up to 5 years.

With some guidelines it would be very safe. I was driving from Pittsburgh about a year ago and the highways were so bare that I would drive 20 to 30 minutes without seeing another car in my lane. Just a big waste of time doing 70 mph.

Dream all you want. Too many idiots out there to pass this law. You forget highway intersections.


You only went 70MPH? pansy. LOL, jk. I go 25 over (up to 90MPH) unless I can see a car or I can't see around a sign (may be a cop sitting there.)

Speed limits are in place not for public safety, but state revenue.

It'll always be there, strictly enforced. It's up to us as drivers to learn the game the cops play and drive according. Down here in South Florida, I can hop on I95 and guarantee you I can see at least 130mph at least once (safely and controlled) at most hours but not between 4-5:30pm due to heavy traffic.

You just have to know how and where they patrol...

91 Acurac NSX--175 mph
04 Jaguar XJR -- 150 mph (electronically limited with more to go)
89 BMW 325is -- 150 mph (electronically limited--but pretty well maxed out)
96 Honda Accord Coupe -- 140 mph roughly, surprising but true

Most vehicles with enough straightaway can get some speed up. All of the vehicles referenced above, except my NSX with tubi exhaust, were stock.

Always found it fascinating how downforce and sound changes at certain speeds. The wind sound became incrementally louder until about 130-135, then rapidly disappeared. Although top-end is fun, always enjoyed the corners more. That will get your nerves tingling.

I admit that I like to speed, but, I'm sorry, that's a bunch of crap.

KSIMP88:How do you think police and fire depts make any real money? Gov't? Get real, why do you think there are quotas that need to be filled at the end of each month, every month..

Maybe some cops on the beat believe they are patrolling the highways to keep everyone safe, but the departments in charge rely on traffic citations to maintain the lifestyles of many dept heads, not to mention bonuses and incentives for state employees.

On a lighter note, earlier today my T5 saw acceptable conditions and just walked up to ~130 on its errand run...
