KSIMP88:How do you think police and fire depts make any real money? Gov't? Get real, why do you think there are quotas that need to be filled at the end of each month, every month..
Maybe some cops on the beat believe they are patrolling the highways to keep everyone safe, but the departments in charge rely on traffic citations to maintain the lifestyles of many dept heads, not to mention bonuses and incentives for state employees.
On a lighter note, earlier today my T5 saw acceptable conditions and just walked up to ~130 on its errand run...

I know people who work in law enforcement. Do you?
Speed limits are in place not for public safety, but state revenue.
It'll always be there, strictly enforced. It's up to us as drivers to learn the game the cops play and drive according. Down here in South Florida, I can hop on I95 and guarantee you I can see at least 130mph at least once (safely and controlled) at most hours but not between 4-5:30pm due to heavy traffic.
You just have to know how and where they patrol...

Have to look into it more but I went to a mile-1 event that took place at the collier-dade training airport on 41! It was awsome! Standing mile top speed! The run way is 2 miles long you start off at one end they clock you at the 1 mile mark and you have a mile to slow down! A few cars went over 200mph! Pretty awesome! But any way......
1988 Acura Integra...... Burried the needle beyond 135mph
1999 Honda SuperHawk... 145mph (my ***** stopped there no wind screen or farrings! Hard to keep your head on!!)
1979 Mercury Bobcat (uncles drag car) 156 mph in the 1/4 mile!

If the people would learn not to pass on the right and the slow stay out of the fast lane...it would be possible....however it could only exist in areas that have exits at least 5 miles apart......go to europe...you'll understand!!!
Too many people in the USA and on current highways. However, to have 2 "autobahns" would be nice. Los Angeles to New York, Portland to Miami
I have raced a vr6 in Dallas Texas with 47k miles and that pig struggles to get above 122+, so unless you start posting vids or pics with support mods I'm calling bs. The r1 is believable but what part of the Autobahn? Everyone I talk to ( both drove c6 Z06's) said that the stretch they ran, outside of ruf got pretty damn hairy around 175+ and they started to get bounce. But hikes maura act a hell lot differently idk.
Stock R1s were about 175mph, but you might see speedo indicate up to 180. Most sports bikes have a speedo error deviation up to 5mph at high speed. So when my 03 CBR 954 said 175, my actual was a little less. No way your 98 R1 read 190 mph unless it was modded. They were great bikes and super fast, but not that fast.
BS on the vr6.

and the corrado took place of the Scirroco... not the VR6 Jetta...it was a box...
Your boys were in bad areas....from Karlsrhue to Frankfurt (A5) was my home stretch...and Europe does not like potholes.....lived there 11 years...
And We had AMG's, Porches and BMW's pass us like we were waiting on a bus....sorry no videos back then...this was 96-2000...you-tube was still a dream!! No reason to lie.....

If I can find a pic of mine I will..it was lowered 1/2 an inch on 16's....but this is like what i had...the Green!!

NO! but it was early in the morning. Around 6 or 7 in the am.... cooler air...I admit the road we were on had a slight 1-2 degree slant...very slight...and the euro versions had more HP than the US..... it was 2 of us...my boy had the same year and he was in front of me about 1/2 a bike length...i weighed 20lbs more than him....

....like the NJ turnpike gas stations in between only with exits for major cities.
I think they should remove the speed limit from many highways. It really would not be that big a deal to do. Just set up some reasonable rules:
- Anyone wanting to drive higher than the posted speed limit would have to get a special license permit, like a CDL.
- You would have to sport a special license plate.
- You would have to pay a yearly or one time fee, something like $1,000.
- You would have to attend special driving classes every 5 years to maintain the permit.
- Part of your training require you to commit not to speed on populated highways (or while they were populated). Example: If you are on a interstate and there are no other cars within 1/4 mile in your lanes, you should be able to do whatever you'd like. If there are other cars around you would have to slow down to within 10 mph of the posted speed limit.
- No passing other cars in excess of 10 mph of the posted limit. If the speed limit is 70 mph, you can not pass anyone faster than 80 mph.
- Your car would have to pass a yearly inspection that would not exceed $100.
- If you got caught breaking the rules you would loose your permit for up to 5 years.
anyho.
120 97 Civic DX hatch. 3 days before I was hit at a stop sign totaling the car I had for a total of 8 days...
125 97 Toyota Rav4 AWD....slightly modded. @ VIR front straight.
110 89 Jeep Cherokee. On route to hospital after friend broke his leg on my parents diving board. Diving board isn't there any more.
135 00 S70. @ night on the "american autobahn" (interstate 81)

I have gone 190 in a 2011 Corvette ZR1 a friend let me borrow. He was riding shotgun.
S80 t6 - stock - 140+ mph (didn't take my eyes off the road to check) slowed down because I was worried about my tires.
Mitsubishi 3000gt - slight mods - 135 mph
Building an 850 turbo which I hope will toss my s80 to shame.
I did do 170ish on a buddy of mines Ducati... Then I took a grasshopper to the shoulder which felt like I had been hit by a baseball bat and slowed down.
