Looking for a 4.4 xc90 power steering pump
#2
I've got one. But it's 2 months later so you obviously have one already. Replaced mine due to cold start whining noise and stiff steering for the first 10 minutes. But it wasn't the PS Pump. Exact same conditions after the pump replacement, so the original pump was not the cause. Still can't figure out the cause. Any ideas out there? Once warmed up all operations are normal. Suggestions?

Yes - that's the P/N 36000748. Anyone can have mine w/out the exchange for the $275 I have into my swap out version. But that might not be the problem and it could be simpler. Searching the Forums revealed my exact same symptoms due to O-Ring P/N 988119. That is whining and stiff at start up and somewhat resolved after warm up. Just ordered the O-Ring and can't wait to get it in there. Wish I had tried this first. But not naive, it could be anywhere in the lines - or worse - the rack & pinion. Hoping on the O-Ring.

Wondering if the o-ring P/N 988119 solved your power steering pump whine issue.
Do I understand correctly yours had the whine and stiffness as symptoms only but no leak?
Did you replace this o-ring only or also the other one at the suction hose?
Can you please share your experience?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Tony1963. I already figured I have a leak from under the flange of the metal pressure pipe (which is on the top of the pump, as you mentioned). This is where the o-ring P/N 988119 goes.
Based on what I see I believe there is no leak from under the flange of the thick rubber hose (the suction hose, coming directly from the bottom of the reservoir and also attached to the top of the pump).
But, while at it, I was thinking about replacing this o-ring as well.
However, I can't find the P/N for that one. I found o-ring P/N 988121 but it's shown on the return line, so I don't think it's the correct part.
Does anybody know by any chance a P/N for that o-ring? Thanks.
