I used to own a 2001 S80 and loved the car - got her up to 300K miles until her sad demise in 2011. I had purchased this BSR PPC diagnostic tool and it was perhaps one of the best purchases I ever made. The thing reads EVERY module for DTCs and can clear any that are found. It also clears the service reminder. These were discontinued and became incredibly hard to find. It's a MUST HAVE if you own one of the Volvo models it supports and will likely pay for itself many times over.

I came across the scanning tool while cleaning out the garage and figured there is probably more than a few folks (probably haunting this forum) who could use it. It's in great shape and was working fine when last used in 2010. I have no hard copy manual, but here is a link to a pdf download of the manual, which can be referenced to to see if it will work for your car and for future use to translate the codes if you buy it: http://www.bsr.se/docs/man_diagnos_uk.pdf. I now also have a 43-page list of explanations of the DTC readouts, which I will provide.

Here is the compatibility according to the manual (from 2009):

I also salvaged the Volvo High Mileage Club badges (both a 100K and a 200K) from the car, which had once been displayed proudly on her. They are used, of course, and perhaps a little bit faded and in need of new stick-up tape, but they are the real deal. Asking $30 for the 100K and $40 for the 200K or $65 for both - shipping (in the U.S.) included. Photos are attached.

BSR PPC diagnostic tool is still available too. I am surprised there has not been more interest. Perhaps many do not know what is is, so I will briefly explain. This is a scantool specifically designed for Volvos. It plugs into your OBDII port and will read ALL of the trouble codes that have been stored in EACH of the control modules (up to 40 or so) in the car. It will give the codes that may be causing any problems you are experiencing, including ABS warnings, SRS warnings, transmission issues, lighting issues, and many many others. A standard scantool will only give you codes stored for engine/emissions-related problems (stored only on the ECU). This tool will also clear any of the codes found, helping in your diagnoses and troubleshooting (transient vs. permanent problems). As mentioned above, it can also clear your service reminder indicator light. It will for all Volvo cars from 2001 and forward (at least until 2007) in the 40N/50/60/70/80/90 series, EXCEPT FOR S40/V40 (1996-2004), C70 (1998-2005) or S80 (2007-). It worked incredibly well for my 2001 S80. For some unknown reason, BSR discontinued these tools around 2009 and have been nearly impossible to find since. BSR now apparently sells tuning kits that include diagnostic functions, but for substantially more money. I, for one, was very pleased that I was not at the mercy of the dealer's charge to hook up their diagnostic computer (at $100 a pop) every time I had an issue.

BSR PPC is still available. I am now ASKING $140.00 SHIPPED (U.S.). I now understand why this item has not been as popular as I believed it would be. I discovered that DICE VIDA setups are now available to do much of (and somewhat more than) this device can do. However, the DICE VIDA setup costs a bit less, but requires a computer and tedious set-up. This device will work (if compatible with your Volvo) as a stand alone, anywhere you might need it. I still can't say enough about how useful a scantool this is, easily worth the money I'm asking.
