1989 780 Bertone Turbo - Parting Out
Hi Guys & Gals,
Did some soul searching today, along with reprioritizing goals and have decided to part out my 1989 Volvo 780 Bertone Turbo. And I do mean the ENTIRE car.
Will begin posting ebay listings tomorrow. If there are any particular parts that anyone is interested in, feel free to post here and I'll snap photos for your review.
In the mean time, here are a few general photos. Don't mind the 2 vertical photos lol. I'll post more detailed general photos tomorrow.
Thanks.

firebirdparts - Had to make a decision. It would require such an investment to cherry this car that I feel it would be a better donor to help other (the few there are) 780 owners to complete their projects.
Cwazywazy - Mornin. If you have a list of parts, I'm happy to work it up.

If I were to take the turbo parts out of a turbo car I'd probably take everything I'd need..
Turbo, manifold, intake, intercooler, ECU, probably the downpipe (Not sure the differences in turbo/NA exhausts), injectors, all the ducting, etc.

I'll snap some pictures and post them in a few. Will need a little time to price all of this out. So far I have:
Turbo
Manifold
Intake
Intercooler
ECU
Downpipe
Injectors
Ducting
If there are any smaller parts feel free to list them out.

pichurri - Took a video of the the Radio & Equalizer in action. Turned in to a short walk around. The radio and EQ work, though the buttons stick some; they do work, just require a few hard presses to hit the sweet spot with a few of them. The contacts could be easily polished up.
CWAZYWAZY - walking back out the door now to get a video of the engine.

Here's the second video detailing the turbo components. Also, got the trunk open and filmed the amplifier.
The second video is just for fun. c(-: By the way, ha ha, realize that I'm wearing a wife beater in both videos. I DO NOT walk around the trailer park like this... generally... lol How stereotypical...?

Actually, I'm not sure if the ECU would work on my 240. And I would also probably need the MAF because IIRC the turbo ones are different. Of course, this all depends on how much it'd cost plus shipping.

I'm willing to give you a deal as it's the whole package in one crate; but $150 would pretty much eat up shipping alone.

If you make a complete parts list it would help tremendously. I have little knowledge of what exactly goes into a turbo conversion.
Figure that this is going into your $200 240 https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-...o-245dl-88470/
It's your first car? Dude, that's awesome! Took my driving exam on my 18th birthday in a 240 wagon. Nearly the perfect car for a new driver in my opinion.
I'm a reasonable person. Not going to try to sucker you with a huge price tag on this stuff. I'm just not like that. If you don't have much experience with Volvo mechanics yet, let's both do some research on the conversion to find out exactly which parts you will need.
You don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm 26.

I'm 17. First car, having a ton of fun with it. Here's what I can list off the top of my head:
Turbo (duh)
manifold and downpipe
intake and MAF
ducting
intercooler
injectors
oil lines for the turbo
the intercooler/rad mounts
I can find an ECU and cam and stuff at a junkyard if I have to. Depending on how much the downpipe would be to ship, maybe I could find/make that on my own too.
EDIT: Doing some research, looks like I'll need the ballast resistor for the turbo injectors.
EDIT2: Looks like the ECU from the 780 should work, provided that it doesn't have a security system/immobilizer. And I think I need the ICU. (Ignition control unit.)

Enterprising for 17. Hat's off to your committment to your first. Saw that you have a jump in your transmission. You forsee any issue with the added power from the turbo killing it dead?
Sure would be a nice sleeper wagon turbo'd. Obviously you're familiar with http://www.ipdusa.com & http://www.fcpgroton.com er... http://www.fcpeuro.com since they changed names.
I'll go ahead and pull all of the above parts to get a better idea of their respective conditions. Will make a video of the shaft play (if any) in the turbo. As for the cam, IPD has a NICE turbo cam; though I'll certainly give you a good deal on the cam here with everything.
Isn't it nice not having to peddle the bike anymore? lol I remember those days. If you're going into Senior year of High School, enjoy the hell out of it. Maybe even get involved with as many clubs/sports/performance activities as you can muster. It really makes for some nice memories and a solid lineage.

Yup. Selling my old project (50cc scooter. No longer exactly 50cc, but the cops don't know that.) for some Volvo money. The linkage or the shifter or something just knocks a few times when I slip the clutch in first. Not really a big deal from what I can tell, but if the extra turbo power breaks something then it was probably gonna break eventually anyway.
As for the cam, I'll get yours if it's cheap enough. Maybe get the IPD one someday.

Guys drop thousands to convert to the 5 speed. Nice wagon for $200.
Much nicer than a scooter. Of course, being able to put an air mattress in the back with the seats folded makes the wagons a super useful ride. Music Festival... no thanks on the hotel. I'll sleep in my car. Amazon has some nice camping air conditioners that run off of 12V. Harbor Freight also has some great solar panel kits. The panels could be mounted to the roof racks. Secondary battery and you have a private suite. Are tint laws strict in CT?
And... I know, I know. Advice on High School from a 26 year old... great...
It really is the golden age, 17. That "If I knew then what I know now..." crap is absolutely true. It's about experiences. Period. No BS.
Look, I'm thinking around the $400-$500 + Shipping range for everything give or take depending on the parts that you want. Once the parts are pulled, we'll have a better idea.
I raced a 1986 BMW 325i in my stock automatic N/A 850 last night and walked him HARD more than once. The 240 turbo'd would be sick. Rear wheel is fun on the dirt trails. We have a few of those here in FL. Had an '88 745 Turbo Wagon and had a permanant smile for awhile.
