CWAZYWAZY - Found this Volvo Rear Ends

Will crawl under and check the diff tomorrow. Rained ALL day here and the ground is mash.

 

Spent more time today stripping the car & DARN IT if I didn't check the diff or shipping on the rims. Importantly though, I admit the fault and will correct. Sorry guys. Here's a couple pics of the progress to make up for it. Trunk and everything in it (tools, jack, spare,carpet, etc.) looks MINT.

 

Find any goodies under the seats? If the diff is an LSD and I bought it (Probably would cost too much for me anyway) you'd have to ship the entire axle, right? I don't know much about how they go together.

 

I do know that it has Independent Rear Suspension vs the Live Axle of years past. And those expensive Nivomat shocks. I'll just crawl under there tomorrow and snap a few pictures of the number plate.

haha, receipts from 2001, enough greasy change to buy lunch, a pokemon book in the rear seat arm rest, what I suspect is a McDonalds french fry that was perfectly preserved. perfectly., Dozens of these tiny clear beads, a few lone fuses??, a Ford Motors branded cassette under the carpet with a mix of music on it lmao (I'll snap a pic tomorrow) and some other odds and ends. If you ever get the chance to disassemble an old car, DO IT. Really an enjoyable experience on many levels.

 

Finding stuff in cars is always fun. My car was just dirty, the most interesting thing in it was broken pieces of furniture. Literally all the money I found was a 20 year old dime under the carpet.

I did see a Volvo at a junkyard with a ton of pencils and kid stuff under the rear seat cushion though. And once when we test drove an XC60 or something years ago I found a half eaten cheeseburger.

 

Went to crawl under the car today and the thing is too low! Not happening. Going to borrow my buddy's floor jack this weekend.

Also, here's the pokemon book and cassette found when taking the carpet/seats out.

Hey, I went out today, and found I can get a box that we can ship the wheels in from Lowes and Home Depot for about $2.50 each. I could cut out some wooden spacers to to put on the top and bottom of each wheel, and some foam padding to protect the wheels. I could then ship them to you when you are getting ready to ship.

CWAZYWAZY - Made a bunch of progress today. Had to work late so didn't get everything done. Got the alternator out, along with a bunch of lines and things disconnected. Going to need a swivel socket to get to one of the bolts on the starter. But the starter is now exposed and ready to be pulled and shipped tomorrow.

Will send it USPS Priority in a flat rate box. It looks like it will fit into the large flat rate box which puts it there in 3 days for $16.35.

 

CWAZYWAZY - This $#&%!@ car... Broke the top bolt free and got it off, but the bottom bolt will not budge. Cant reach it from the top of the bay, so crawled under and am just not getting enough torque to break it loose. Barely got my head to the point that I could even see the bolt. By the way, these bolt heads are facing the firewall with BARELY enough clearance to fit a slim access ratchet over. Bottom bolt is slightly more accessible. WHY Volvo did this, I don't know. Okay, @!%$# session over.

It's soaking in PB Blaster right now. There just isn't enough clearance from the ground to fit a breaker bar over the ratchet. My buddy is supposed to be coming over after work with his floor jack. Hopefully he comes through.

Keeping you updated. Oh, included a nice picture of the arm from getting the top bolt off. Now I know why mechanics wear long sleeves. There's about 10 degrees of arc that the ratchet can swing on that top bolt. Took ages.

This one is a nasty $!#@%.

 

Wow, I didn't think it'd be that hard.. Let's just hope that you can get it off later.

 

Working on it. This cheap Harbor Freight ratchet set and assorted tools isn't helping the situation. Sold my nice Craftsman 300+ piece set to my Father a while back. I'm beginning to think that I made a poor decision in parking it on soft dirt like this. It's my driveway but basically a drainage canal when it rains.

 

Btw... posting this in the 740 section now for advice.

 

CWAZYWAZY - Here are a few pics. Just worked on getting the cam out. Any advice on removing the black plastic (timing?) cover holding the cam gear?

 

The black cover I think you need to take the cam gear off and maybe some other stuff to remove it? IDK. Is the thingy to the left of the second pic with the black/red tube the turbo boost controller?

 

It's got independent rear suspension, right? But, assuming the diff is an LSD, could I just use the center section or whatever?

 

I'll pull the Chilton manual and see how to lock the cam. It just spins when I crank the center bolt on the cam gear.

I think the boost controller is integral to the turbo assembly (extraneous components like wastegate etc.) Not really sure what that is lmao. It plumbs into the intake manifold with the black/red hose. The other end was in the turbo loop. I think it may be part of the turbo+ kit. Maybe someone else can chime in...? I feel like such a green mechanic here lol. I'm going to include it anyway. Everything of the turbo system.

From what I'm reading, the 1035 wont fit into your live-axle. Maybe I'm wrong...

 

Ah, forget it. I can live with an open diff. As for the cam, do you have an impact? If not, try putting a socket wrench on it and whack the end of it with a hammer while holding the cam still.
