I am selling my '96 8050 Turbo Wagon. I've had her for 3 years. She's been a great commuter car, but since getting a higher paying job, I've decided to get something newer. When I got her, she had a Salvage title and the odometer stopped turning shortly afterwards at over 118k, so I don't know the true mileage. I figured that this forum would be a good way to find someone that knows enough about the car to know what that they are getting a well-built car and also has the know-how, means, and desire to do the necessary work that she needs to shine again.

Other than the odometer, most things still work in the car:
Brand new tires. I only drove on them for 2 weeks before purchasing another car.
Moonroof opens/closes with ease, no leaks.
Original radio works well.
Had a new radiator installed a few months ago (it cracked when tapping the curb pulling up too far in to a parking spot).
Intercooler replaced 2 years ago (same type of thing- it cracked driving over a sharp rock on a dirt road).
Battery has been replaced in the last 3 years.
All power functions work: seats, windows, locks.

Work it needs:
Odometer doesn't turn.
Needs shocks.
Leaks oil (moderate, and I was told it's at the rear main seal).
I think there is a slight power steering fluid leak.
Missing the cover for front passenger turn signal.

I've set a much lower price than Blue Book due to the odometer reading not being accurate, so for now, I'm firm on this price.

Too bad I'm on the east coast! FYI, You can fix the turn signal cover for about $25 from FCPEURO.COM. There's a small spring clip to undo just like changing the bulb and the whole unit comes right out. Also the odometer needs a new gear. Takes some time open the dash and pull out the cluster - but its a $15 part for a DIY. I've also heard on some models you can pull the mileage off the ECU via a code reader. Not sure if that's true of the 96s. Also, if you are running synthetic oil, switch back to "high mileage" dyno oil like Castrol High Mileage. The high mileage oils have a seal softener. That cured my rear main seal leak - no more spotting, worth a try to up the car's value.

Struts are easy to do on these cars, but requires a spring compressor. I'd recommend sticking with Boge's and OEM spring seats (there's a rubber cap that tends to crack and causes thumps when going over potholes/speed bumps etc). Parts run 200-300 total but I've done a pair in my garage in under 3 hours total for both.

So feel free to share with a prospective buyer! If they are a DIY type, they can get the car tip-top in a couple weekends.
