Default Brian's 2006 Volvo C70

I just received it last night around 10:00PM. Yes, I am completely nuts and bought a high mileage car from halfway across the US... on ebay. But I love it!

Thanks, man!

I think I had my first experience with the start of high costs yesterday. He said Volvo recommends synthetic oil, and rang up a $75 bill. Then they realized they had only charged me $5 for a $30 oil filter, and let me know that. So I guess my first oil change should have been about $100! I normally pay maybe $30-$35, so that's noticeable. Of course, with synthetic, he said I could go 12000 miles, so that makes a big difference.

WTF.....oil filters are like $5 and a quart of synthetic oil is $3-$6....
And you can run synthetic oils that longer, but you should still change it every 5,000miles or every 6months. Dont wont to risk a clogged system.

That is why We do are own oil changes....etc. If you know how, or have the time to do it (takes like 5-30 minutes), you can save a lot of money doing it yourself..... Or at least find a cheaper shop....

(RED FLAG)!!! do NOT change your oil every 12k! I change out mine in my 850 turbo every 3,500 miles. You can go to 4k but some folks have seen sludge appear even at 5k intervals. It' up to you, but DO NOT do 12k! BTW, thats a SWEET red Convertible! That's screaming "Pull me over" in that red...... lol.

I love red C70's. Oil change 6 qts. full synthetic $25. Oil filter $10 and even if you have a mechanic change it he should charge much more than $30 so $65 tops.

3500? That sounds like regular oil, definitely not synthetic. I actually used to work at Ashland Oil based in Lexington, Kentucky, and even back in the 90s, they said that although standard oil was "rated" for 3000 miles, you could easily go 4000 before it even starts to break down.

The 12k is for synthetic, although I admit, that still sounds like a long time. I only put about 10k-11k miles a year on my vehicle, so I'll probably just change oil at the end of summer and beginning of spring (so about every 6000 miles with synthetic).

Thanks! I think you're right about the red. I have been paranoid while driving. lol
