Ok, so I have a 2010 XC60 T6 with 186k miles. I want to get rid of it and buy another with around 100-120k, because of certain issues with my car. My problem is I will be doing the same maintenance on the potential next car as what I’ve done to my current car. I want to modify my current car or next car, whichever I choose, more than I have now. So I’m wondering what other people think I should do. Do I keep my current car and fix everything then modify, or do I buy another one and sell my current car?
really depends on your issues with the current car and whether you can score a similar model with 100K miles for a reasonable price. 186K is high miles but not outrageous (these can regularly go 250K+ with proper maintenanance but they will still need repairs as items wear out). When you say you want to modify the car what do you have in mind? ie suspension bits, body trim, chip tuning/engine performance bits? I'd probably avoid investing in engine performance bits on a high mileage car (unless you can pull the parts off later) so that would point to starting with a fresher car. For other stuff, it may be cheaper to address the known issues and sort the car out then decide where to add some goodies. Personally I have only done mods when the original parts needed service - ie worn shocks? good time to consider Bilsteins etc...
I have an exhaust on my current car and if I get another car I plan on swapping the exhaust and I’d like to do an intercooler, tune and maybe intake. My current car has a dent on the rear quarter panel, oil leak from turbo lines, and a coolant leak. I plan on fixing the leaks around thanksgiving. But that still leaves me at a point where my car runs really good and has no rust on the body and undercarriage looks pretty healthy.
