1976 242 Brake Bleeding troubles!!
I replaced my master cylinder as well as a caliper recently. I have been trying to bleed my brakes and cant get it done right! Each front caliper has 3 bleeder screws! Does anyone know if it is required to bleed all three or is there just one main bleeder?!?! Any info is very much appreciated!!
No laughter here! Everyone starts out as a rookie. By not bleeding the m/c off of the vehicle, you introduce a TON of air into the system and just increases the PITA coefficient! Volvo has a convoluted bleed schematic as a result of the split braking system. Normally, one starts at the wheel furthest from the m/c. Then work your way towards it. So, on a Volvo, that means RR, LR, RF and LF. Volvo has you doing more running around to do one system at a time. Personally, I used to follow their particular instructions until one day I was in a hurry and needed my car back ASAP. Bled all bleeders at each wheel and then went to the next. I figured it would get me enough brakes to get to work. Lo and behold, they bled out fine and I had great brakes so...I stopped doing it the Volvo way. I don't advise anyone else to ignore Volvo proscribed procedures EVER...just sharing my experience. I'm sure their method works better, I just don't do it on my own vehicles.
