1982 244T Mods and Upgrades
15 Attachment(s)
Start of the 244T project Here is the start of what should be a build up off a gnarly daily driver. The car is a 1982 Volvo 244T. Houses a B21FT, M46 transmission, and fueled by K-jet. She runs almost perfect, but is a little slow for me. She was my 20th birthday present as my brother will be taking over the 745T for school. Long story short, she is in great condition (minus the slight cracking leather), but has basicly been sitting for the past year with, mostly because the suspension is shot. Anyways...on to the pictures! Here is the car in question in it's current form: Attachment 20974 Attachment 20975 Attachment 20976 Attachment 20977 Attachment 20978 Attachment 20979 Attachment 20980 Here is most of the exciting parts that will mate with her and should reproduce pure awesomeness: Attachment 20981 Attachment 20982 Attachment 20983 Attachment 20984 http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P6020024.jpg Attachment 20985 Attachment 20986 Attachment 20987 Attachment 20988 http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/PB250544.jpg I am waiting for the last ball joint to come in, and then I can start tearing the car apart, and send the rack out to get rebuilt. Kaplhenke Racing coilovers (1" shorter strut tubes), roll center/steering spacers, adjustable torque rods, adjustable panhard bar, adjustable endlinks, and camber plates. RSI poly engine mounts and poly trans mount, poly front control arm bushings, and OEM rubber rear trailing arm bushings. CravingBoost big strut brace with firewall braces, and short throw shifter. IPD 28mm front swaybar and 25mm rear bar (experimenting), SS brakelines, stock rebuilt calipers, with pbr pads, and brembo rotors. NPR black intercooler, 2.5" intercooler piping, B230 intake manifold conversion, and a MBC once i get a wideband and boost gauge for the car. Flathood conversion, Borbet Type E 16"x7.5" with Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec (still debating on profile, but probably 225/50/16). Can't wait to start on this... |
You are one lucky dude. That's a nice 240 and a nice collection of parts. Seems like every local Volvo goes through Gabriels up in Ojai at one time or another. I've never driven a 240, let alone a turbocharged one. How slow is "slow"?
|
Thanks. I am blessed.
Funny you mentioned Gab's place. We got this car from Mark in Ojai and some service was done there. The first time we saw the car was at that meet at Mike's house. Slow is a relative term... Humm it's not that bad, but it can really use that intercooler and a few more psi. It also needs a camshaft, for it doesn't feel like it has that much pull past 3000rpms. |
Looking forward to the before/after assessment! :)
|
When you do the intercooler are you doing a B230 intake as well?
|
Yep..
|
Cool cannot wait to see it finished!
|
Me too!
The car is up in the air. All of the front suspension and steering will come off tomorrow. Got to get the rack out, boxed up and sent out for the rebuild. It will be finished in a couple weeks. The last ball joint is on backorder :( |
Cool where did you order the parts from?

Summit racing

Oh ok I was hoping it was not IPD.

Status update on the 244T...
Got everything off the front: Attachment 20954 Steering rack is on it's way to the rebuilders: Attachment 20955 Only have to remove the torque rods on the rear and everything will be off: Attachment 20956 Might be time to get the exhaust done, but can't spend money on that right now. It is all rusty... eww... gross with holes in it ;) http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P7280393.jpg Lots more cleaning to do... |
The 240 is getting worked on slowly now, because of the damn ball joint on back order. I sandblasted the rear calipers, suspension arms, and some other miscellaneous pieces. Also pushed out the bushings that need to be push out, and in doing so, on of the welds broke on one of the trailing arms. So I just dropped all the arms off at Josh's place (yoshifab) to fix and box them in.
Still have some more Small off car jobs, but everything is ready to go on. |

Making progress, but slow. still waiting on a couple parts to come.
Boxed in arms http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P8100421.jpg Grease fittings for the poly bushings are currently drilled. Still need to tap them, modify the bushing, and install them Attachment 20853 Attachment 20854 Attachment 20855 Got the rear brake lines installed Attachment 20856 New Poly motor mounts are in. Poly Trans mount will go in soon. Attachment 20857 Attachment 20858 Attachment 20859 Attachment 20860 Still more stuff to do, but almost ready to install everything. |
Man, I'm a little nervous about poly mounts. Don't they transmit more vibration? I have 2 of them in my 850 T-5R and I can hardly stand when at idle sometimes.

Small update...
Drain the diff fluid, and replaced the Rear cover gasket yesterday. Painted the rearend today. still have to do a second coat tomorrow. Remember, not going for a show car, so it will not be perfect http://www.volvolution.com/forum/ima...ilies/wink.gif http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P8170555.jpg Attachment 20842 Attachment 20843 Attachment 20844 Got the rack in. I would have bought one from the guys at FCP, but they couldn't do a special request by chosing which rack you got, so I just went straight to Jorgen (the company FCP uses). So far, it looks great. Highly recommended their company as of now. http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/p...s/P8180643.jpg I'll finish the rack lines tomorrow. Rear trailing arm bushings should come in tomorrow, so I can finish modifing the bushings, then the arms can go on the car. The only "major" thing left to modify is the strut tower depending on which way I decide on mounting the camber/ caster plates. Oh... check this out Got a letter in the mail last week from the HOA. Apparently it is basically "illegal" to work on my car in the city where I live. http://www.volvolution.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif They have given me a deadline to finish. The car will probably not be done by then, depending on when the last two parts come in. The car has been up for a couple weeks now. I would have been done in a week or so if all the pars where here, and there where no returns or backorders. http://www.volvolution.com/forum/ima...ilies/whip.gif |
Fingers crossed for you!
