anyone have some?

jupoloopo 07-25-2011 04:57 PM

well I checked the flame trap, it was dirty but that wasn't the problem.

jigen3 07-26-2011 03:45 PM

where's the youtube video?

jupoloopo 07-27-2011 09:14 AM

it doesn't matter now, it won't start at all.

jupoloopo 07-27-2011 09:42 AM

just opened up the fuel pump relay, it looks perfect.

This is a very confusing thread. If you want more help, feel free to fill a page describing your problem in full. We won't annoyed with too many details.

It's been over a month since I was able to drive it, I'm unemployeed so I've been trying to fix it. I simply can't figure it out. someone on the other forum told me to clean the idle control valve and the way they stated it made me think it was stuck so I opened it up thinking I was going to have to pay 80 bucks, messed it all up, fixed it, bought a new one from a copher and it wasn't ever the problem at all. during all of this I messed with the idle air screw and also ruined my AMM, by accidentally spraying carb cleaner in it, instead of the MAF cleaner. I then later replaced the TPS according to some advice a volvo owner gave me, who said he had the same problem. But I still same problem, before I touched anything.
changed the fuel filter, same problem. opened up the fuel pump relay and it looked perfect. then I dumped a bunch of fuel injector cleaner and heet in the tank.
I can't even think of what the problem is.

When I start it with the AMM disconnected it will sometimes idle really low and die. other times it will just start and die. with the AMM connected it will only run if I give it gas.

When it first happened I was driving down a road at idle speed and it just died. I pulled off the side of the road started it and went a little bit more. It died 3 or 4 more times until i got home.

If I mess with the idle air screw with the AMM disconnected I can get it to sound like a jet engine.

I replaced the in tank fuel strainer and the main fuel filter this time last year and have only put maybe 10-15K miles on it since.
I replaced the flame trap this time last year, with the newer nylon type, and also cleaned it just a couple weeks ago.

My fuel line from the main fuel filter it very sticky, but isn't leaking.
I've been trying to figure out where to get new fuel line, I bought vacum line from IPD but it doesn't look the same I.D.

During the times I can get it to idle with the AMM disconnected, if I give it gas really quickly or put it in gear it dies.

This is about all I can think of that might be of use to anyone who might have an idea.
I can answer any questions to the best of my ability.
It's like the car is mad at me for not giving it all my time.

going to try finding an AMM, since the other one either died or i messed it up. seems like the only thing that could be left.

jupoloopo 08-27-2011 06:47 PM

Man, I wish I could get this thing to work. I guess I need to find a better forum.

jupoloopo 08-27-2011 06:55 PM

couldn't find an amm, so I tested the one I have and it's giving the right numbers AFAICT, but it won't stay running with it connected...

jupoloopo 09-23-2011 11:34 AM

alright, so it turns out testing an amm is useless as either they work or they don't and there is no actual way to diagnose if it is bad without a good one. turns out it was amm and fuel pump. fuel pump yellow wire was melted, and apparently that is a symptom of a spent fuel pump. amm I accidentally grabbed the wrong can and sprayed it down with carb cleaner. ultimate problem was fuel pump, a couple friends told me I should replace the fuel filter, while doing this I noticed the yellow wire on the main fuel pump melted through, didn't pay much attention to it at the time. so while replacing the fuel filter was not needed it helped me see the melted wire. saw a post from someone with a similar issue with the same symptoms a few weeks ago, turns out that was the nasty gremlin. If I could only figure out what caused it now. unless this just happens when the fuel pump goes. If not I guess I have an electrical problem.

those times you have a problem so you google your problem... Lo and behold google gives you the same thing you wrote 4 years ago.

cleaner sprays rarely help AMM's and often do more harm than good.
