Default 1988 Volvo 240Dl PLEASE HELP.......

I have a 1988 240Dl that cut off then started back and managed to get it home. It had no fire to plugs, so then I checked fire to Distributor, which it had. So I tried a distrinutor. No luck. So then I check for power to ICU and it had 12v to it, so I figured it was good. Nexy I checked fuel pump relay. I appeared to operate as designed, its definetly getting fuel. So after doing some more testing I found that it no longer had fire from the coil. It has power on both legs of the coil....Not sure what the deal with that is, so I have now tried a new electical part of the ignition switch and still no power from coil. If you wiggle the ignition switch with the key in it you get a little spark from the coil......PLEASE HELP ME....I am at wits end I wanna burn this this thing down.....AAAAHHHHHHHHH ...Someone definetly has seen this before

The coil is a transformer that transforms 12 V battery power to approx. 10,000 V for the spark plugs. The high voltage comes as pulses as the power to the coil is switched on and off by the electronic ignition controller.
It appears that what you now can see is a spark as you "...wiggle the ignition switch..."..is quite normal and is an indication that all is well...with the coil at least.

If you are able to get the engine running - but that the engine barely runs or runs rough (this is my understanding of the current situation) - it's an indication that one (usually only one) spark plug does not get high voltage...usually caused by a damaged hi-voltage cable from the distributor to one of the spark-plugs. By disconnecting one of the plug cables from one of the spark plugs and attempting to start the engine you will beable to determine if that is the defective cable - i.e. no change... If it's worse - the cable you disconnected is o.k. Don't disconnect cables with the engine running, as you may get a pretty nasty electric shock. So make sure the engine is turned off before connecting and disconnecting hi-voltage cables.
Don't disconnect many cables at the same time, as there then is a danger you might re-fit them in the wrong places...which definitely will give you grief.
