1990 740 Turbo code 2-2-4

I have a new coil, new plugs and wires. I have cleaned about every wire connecter under the hood. I have checked every fuse. I have replaced the igniter. crankshaft positioning sensor (main problem with the previous no starting issue) and the throttle positioing sensor>> >>new as of 4-2-08 >>
The car is running now and will drive. Not quite dialed in with throttle positioning sensor and the possibility of one more minor vacuum leak. Does anyone out there know if the 2-2-4 code would cause a rich running condiiton or is this just from the minor vacuum leak. The check engine light is not lit now but it seems to accelerate poorly and hiccups a little

RE: 1990 740 Turbo no fire, no fuel, no codes

I'd assume they did everything wrong and re-do it, remove spark plugs after cranking to see if they're wet,
check the gap, also make sure they have the correct spark plugs.

Check polarity at coil installation and ground of coil.
Fuses.

Clean out sockets #2 and 6 on the OBD box, clean probe. Spray some elec cleaner or use acetone..whatever.
Maybe some tissue around a pencil or screwdriver tip.

Let me guess---the couple shut the car down, and when they came out the next morning it just wouldn't start? And now the car won't even turn over? If so, try the Mass Airflow Sensor. I had my 740 do just that to me one fine day. The car was running great and I stopped at my wifes' work for five minutes. Came out, turned the switch and nothing! Tried to get a code---nothing! Had it towed to a shop and they figured out that it was MAF sensor.

I had the same problem on mine years ago, and my friend who has a garage fixed it. and yes. maf sensor rings a bell. it was so frustrating to try to do yourself, i tried every fuse, every other thing i could think of. and i was goin to give up. but i never, i paid for it to be done, and i was a happy bunny, dont give up, get it sorted. cheers John.

RE: 1990 740 Turbo no fire, no fuel, no codes

I now have codes! They are 1-1-1! Thats good right? Still no start. No spark. Dry plugs. I found a page here on the web that has wiring diagrams for 1989 740's (mine is a '90) and have now ordered a new igniter. I have also bought a new cap and rotor. They were a little worn anyway. As I am sitting here at work right now, I am waiting to see if this solves my at least 'no spark' problem. I think I read somewhere that if the circuit is broken before juice makes it back to the coil, that the car will not deliver fuel to the injectors. Also, someone said that if there has been alot of engine cranking with no fire, that the engine oil may have gas now in it. Anyone know if these things are true?

Oh, it's a no to lone viking. The car turns over just fine. Just no spark or fuel getting into the cylinders. The "no code" thing led me to believe that the ecu was bad. Turns out that the little code box was just a little dirty. Codes are now reading 'no problem' (1-1-1) on 2 and 6

markisboss, I am with jonesg, have you checked your fuses? Try also swapping relayes on the radiator overflow. I had same problem at one time turned out to be fuse, if I remember the cause was a bed gound wire from alt. to theblock. good luck.

RE: 1990 740 Turbo no fire, no fuel, no codes

I just wanted to update this. I have been on other forums and now that I have "the beast" running, just not quite right. Only code I am getting is 2-2-4 on the #6 pin. Doesnt accelerate right and drives terribly. Still posibility of vacuum leak I suppose. Changed throttle posioning sensor and still may be out of adjustment. Any ideas or have I answered my own question? Can temp sensor cause poor running condition?
