1990 740 wagon 16 valve - do I buy?

I hope this is the correct section to post this - basically I have found a very clean 740 wagon 16 valve 1990 200K. Has been carefully looked after - one owner - timinig belt recently done - despite all of this I have been cautioned against buying primarily due to issues related to the 16 valve engine. I will have a pre-inspection done if I decide to proceed but would appreciate any thoughts or concerns with respect to issues around the 16 valve and or any specifics I should consider in a pre inspection.

Thanks

1990 740

I own a 1990 740 wagon with 175,000 miles. I am unaware of any issues with the motors in these cars other than the occasional cold engine knock in the #1 cylinder. If it is clean, well maintained, drives well and cost less than $2,000, buy it. If it cost more have a local person familiar with volvos give it a look over and a better idea of the true value. There are also amny on-line car value websites as well.

Those engines have no inherent issues that a regular redblock does not have (that is, no real issues).
They put out a good deal more power than a stock redblock, with the only catch of doing it higher in the rev range. So be aware that they need to reva little to do their best work, if you take it for a test drive and like it, I say buy it.

Regards, Andrew.
