1991 240 EGR bypass
 

Any info on doing a bypass for the EGR ? 1991 240 152K. My car keeps setting the code for it.
I also get a rough idle when it's raining out.I changed the MAF already.I remember I've seen some were on how to do it. And I'll get some more horsepower right. I seen eEuroparts sells a
EGR valve plug.

if you're in a location that does smog inspection, you'll fail if you bypass the EGR

its a damn simple system, there's only a few parts that can fail. step 1) verify the EGR actuator is OK, thats the little 'hat' thing on the left strut tower, there's a test mode in the LH2.4 diagnostic box that pulses it, so you can disconnect teh hoses, and blow through it, and feel the pulsing if its working.

step 2) REPLACE THE VACUUM HOSES, they are 20 years old probably

step 3) disconnect the vacuum hose that goes to the EGR control valve down under the intake manifold, and stick it on a mityvac, with the car idling, suck on the hose, and you should hear the idle change as exhaust gasses are dumped into the intake :)

if it fails step 3, then you may need a new EGR valve. usually its just the hoses.

I don't think disabling it gets you any more horsepower, but it will use more fuel when you're coasting.

I'm not in a area that requires a EGR. I'll do the test and the cleaning.

Sorry it took so long to give an up date. pierce you were right. It was my vacuum hoses.
The elbows where in bad shape. Put in new ones. My car runs great. THANKS
