1992 Volvo 240

I have a 240 and It starts up and runs great but on hot and muggy days, it has a hard time coming back from the place you came from. It will start up fine but you do have to move quickly to get it into gear because once you get it into drive then it quits. Also if i have to stop at a stoplight or stop sign, the car may or may not shut off. One more major problem i have with the car is the SRS light is on. I know that there is in fact an airbag in the steering wheel, but the previous owner did lightly crash it, enough to set off the airbag. He did get it replaced though. Hopefully it's just a wiring problem or a sensor (The car has many more wiring problems) but i want to play this one safe and ask anyone if they know anything i should do to fix the airbag problem. Thank you.

The SRS is a lot more involved than changing a deployed bag. You probably have to change the sensor, along with other things--not a piece of cake. The whole system has to be gone through in order to determine what's wrong...

your engine problem could be something as simple as a funky throttle body, or throttle idle switch, or idle air controller.

for testing the idle air controller, a 1992 240 has LH 2.4, which has a 'diagnostic test mode 3' that will cycle the IAC on/off/on/off with the ignition on but the engine off, if you disconnect the IAC hose, and hook up a rubber tube and blow gently into it, you should feel the air chop ON/OFF/ON/OFF with this test. if its sluggish or partial, you might have to take the IAC out and clean it with some throttle body cleaner spray. ditto remove and clean the throttle body, and when you reassemble it, ensure the idle switch actuates at idle, and clicks off just a hair above idle.
