1992 Volvo 240 Brand New Clutch Slipping
Good day! My car was having clutch slipping especially when I got stuck in a traffic jam in a hot day or if I left my car idle for some time. I've changed to a brand new Sachs clutch kit but the problem still persists. There is no wetness in the old clutch plate. When I drive the car in the above mentioned condition, the clutch will slip badly when I accelerate hard but will be fine if I drive the car smoothly or in a rainy day. Hope to get some advice. Thanks!

did you inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for cracks and burn spots?
Was this with a new pressure plate? did you resurface the flywheel? I've heard that new clutches can slip or be hard to put the car into gear for the first 100 miles or so, but then it goes away. |
The pressure plate is also new. But I think the flywheel has not been resurfaced. Thing is before the clutch job, the car was having the exact same problem before the clutch job. I inspect the old clutch plate and found out that there is still quite a lot of material on it. After the clutch job (new friction material, pressure plate, release bearing) the problem remains.

Could very well be the rear main seal leaking oil then.
What sucks, is everything will have to come off to replace it. Did you change the clutch or some one else? Did you see any oil in that area? |
Someone else did it, but when i got the old clutch back, it was bone dry.

It sounds like something in the clutch linkage is worn,or binding, and causing a pre load against the throw out bearing. Can you check the release arm that goes into the clutch housing, and see if it can be freely moved back and forth 1/4 inch or so ? With this problem occurring before, and after clutch replacement, and no oil contamination, it sounds like a linkage or adjustment issue.
