Default 240 Automatic bell housing compatibility

Hello,
I am new to the Forums and I recently purchased a 84 240 wagon that is in need of a lot of TLC. The car has transmission oil leak at the mating area between the tranny and the bell housing, While I was doing a clean-up I noticed that the housing has a crack in it. I need to source a bell housing for the 84 240, and I have a few questions.
I am hoping that someone here can tell me which years are compatible or if the 1984 is different etc. Also being new where would I post a WTB for the part?
Any info is much appreciated.
Best, Ben

The leak is from the hardened/no longer soft and supple bell housing orings. Have resealed many of those aw70-71 trans (years ago). Never seen a cracked bell housing but if you insist that aw70/71 trans was used on all the 240's, 740's, 940's with the red block 4 cylinder (turbo and non) through 1995 in the US.
The orings you need are a 1233141 for the bellhousing and a 1239673 for the oil pump. (the pump oring is not shown on this parts page)

Hoonk,
I am really glad to have found this site! Many thanks for the rapid response. There is a crack running from the rear to the front of the bell housing, I don't believe it' a casting line, but will further verify. From the great diagram you sent, it appears that the tranny oil fills part of the bell housing itself....is this true? My experience with other makes the O ring is in the tranny and not between the tranny and the bell housing.
Correct me if I am not understanding but seems as though all models share the same bell housing, 240's, 740's, 940's through 95, correct......I have been asking for 84's with no luck (too old), but looks like I can ask for later years and models...... up to 95 with models 740 and 940 not just the 240, correct?
One last question being new here, which sub-forum would I go to to post a WTB for the housing?
Again, many thanks for the information.
Best, Ben

Voluparts.com in Atlanta 404-352-3402 might have a bellhousing, but will certainly have any info you need.

#22 oring and #15 oring on this page are needed to keep the bellhousing from leaking. That extended bellhousing is used on the 4 speed trans. Earlier 3 speed had a more normal bellhousing.

Hoonk,
Many thanks for the lead to Georgia, I made the call and they have the parts.....sales was great and wanted to make sure that the housing was indeed cracked before selling me one. He also said that replacing the gaskets on the tranny would stop the oil leak....I'll order on Monday!
Thanks again,
Best, Ben
