Should be the same. 242 is a 2 door 240, 240 generically includes all 240s, 244, 245, etc.

Is your sending unit rusty? normally just the pumps and rubber/sock parts need replacing.
they ought to be the same although i can't be certain.

phew, 1976 is a very early 240, looking in the VADIS parts catalog, those fuel senders were considerably different than the later 1980s and 1990s units.

Thats a K-Jetronics (aka CIS) fuel injection system, which are a lot different than the later LH (EFI) injection systems. and it looks like lots of changes year to year, so matching parts exactly is probably more than a little challenging.

according to my parts catalog, there's a bunch of different tank units (senders plus in-tank fuel pumps) used those years. 242 chassis number up to 106765, it might be 1235295. chassis 106766-122894, its 1235227. the next version says its for 1978+
