740 Turbo, 2 cyls no compression - seeking opinions
I have a 91 740 turbo with about 230k miles. I was coming home from work and it was running great, but then all of a sudden started making a "clacking" sound and losing power. I drove it home the rest of the way (about 15 miles) and carefully watched the coolant...temps normal. I checked compression and have 0 psi (yes, zero) on cyls 1&2 while 3&4 are around 150-160 psi.
There is no smoking from the tail pipe and temp does not rise. I was thinking I could replace the head gasket and continue to drive it. Any thoughts on this? Or is the car bound for volvo heaven? Thanks in advance. |

Pull the head and check the pistons. Could also be valves. Won't know until you pull it apart
