79 244DL auto to manual
 

im looking to convert my 79 244DL to either a 4 speed auto or 5 speed from a 3 speed auto. i was wondering how hard it would be to make the conversion to manual or if putting the 4 spped auto in would be easier. and also how hard it is to get those parts.

If your model of car came with all those different opption on the same engine it's just a matter of getting the right transmission...auto to auto shouldn't be that big a deal. If not, then i'm sure there's a converssion kit out there to retro your prefered transmission. People have been making the 240 series of Volvo's into any number of frankenstein projects for years.

Auto to Manual can be done but it's expensive. You'll need to cut some metal for the clutch, buy the linkages to the transmission and maybe fabricate mountings for it all (or find some that have already been made...like i said, there are hundreds of us Volvo nuts out there). Also, does a 79 244DL have a computer? If it does you'll need to figure all that crap out too. You're better off selling the car you have and buying one with the manual in it already...unless it's a project car and you're doing it for the challenge. As far as finding parts....it's only as hard as your ability to use the internet makes it.
