Default 86' volvo 240 manual overdrive problem...

The short is that my overdrive does not work. Here is what I have done so far:

Checked fuses
Checked relay
cut and replaced wires from shift **** area to transmission (When I did this, the relay stopped clicking. I don't know if I have the right electric connector for the red wire that hooks in on top of the tranny.)

I used a voltage tester on the solenoid and there was no power going to it from the yellow wire, I checked the ground and cleaned the connections and the solenoid, and still couldn't get power.

Is there anything else I could possibly check before I just buy a used transmission from a salvage yard and start from scratch?

if the relay stopped clicking...that would lead me to believe your relay was failing to begin with...and is now completely gone.

Your thread title says manual overdrive...does the kick down cable not work as well? Or were you only really referring to the electronic switch?

The electronic switch on the top of the transmisison...I pulled the old wire out that was completely bare and shreded, and I couldn't find a wire bus to fit back in the whole it came out of, so i rigged up a 16 gauge bus, but the hole that it plugged into seemed to have some really gummy stuff on it, and it was difficult to plug back in. But the relay was clicking just fine until I pulled the wire out.

Ps thanks for the wiring diagram, I have been looking for one of those.
