'87 240 dl wagon headlight assembly replacement
How interchangeable are the assemblies within the 240 series?
A previous owner painted over the reflective inside of my assembly (87 dl wagon) with black paint, and I can't see at night. (Anyone know why?) Anyhow, I'm looking for new/used assemblies on ebay, and it seems all of the 240s used the same unit from 86-93. Is this correct? Was there any difference between the sedan and wagon models with regards to the headlights? Alternately, is there such thing as reflective headlight paint out there so I can repaint the inside of my assemblies? Thanks |

Your '87 wagon 240 will accept the modular headlamps for a '86- 93 assuming that yours is a U.S. spec car. The facelift restyling happened for the '86 year model, so all years after that will fit. If yours is a Euro-spec vehicle, or if you want a different look for your 245, search this forum for Euro-Spec headlight conversions.
I have no idea why anyone would paint their reflectors as you describe. Assemblies can be resilvered; its more than just a paint and not as cost effective in these cars as buying a new or used assembly. |
The "Depo" brand made-in-china headlight assemblies I've put on several cars have been as nice as OEM for about half the price. They fit near perfect, and they come with everything. I dunno if they have 240 'tv panel' style lights or not, however (I've used them on a 740, a 940, and a toyota).

I can confirm that any '86-'93 240 headlight will fit yours, sedan or wagon. After '86 the headlight assemblies are the same worldwide for all 240's. Only difference is the material to make them (glass, plastic).
