88 volvo 140dl Vibration 35-45mph

I am experiencing pretty bad vibration in my car. Enough so, the side mirror vibrates. from about 30mph to 45 or so. take off is great, highway is nice and smooth. I do not feel any vibration in the gearshift. Anybody got any ideas?

when you rev it up in the driveway to about the same as 40mph rpm's does it do it?

Start with inspecting the tires since they are the easiest. But most likely it's in the driveshaft line: the bearing, support, U joints, etc.

be sure to check the output shaft bushing on the trans while your under there checking the u-joints

driveshaft center bearing and the rubber bushing its in would be the first thing I'd look at. thats speed rather than RPM dependent, and a frozen bearing or shot bushing will exhibit vibrations at middle speeds, and or a loud rumble.

thanks for the reply's. what I forgot to mention is if I mash on the gas from still I get loud clunks. Could that be bad u joint and the driveshaft is hitting the under side of the car. If so, how do I check that

Yeah, that's the center support/bearing. You check by getting under the car and taking the drive shaft off, and seeing what's bad. Mark the drive shaft to re assemble in the same position as it is balanced from the factory--not hard.

Thanks for the info. I'll look at it this weekend
