89 Volvo 740 regina rex slow starting, is this normal?
Hi Again, I've noticed ever since owning this car, "about a month now" that it always takes 3 or 4 seconds of cranking before the car starts, doesn't matter if hot or cold or even if i shut it off and immediately restart it. car seems to be running alright other wise. kinda seems weird to me, is this normal for regina systems? Thanks Mike

Leaky injectors partially flooding your engine maybe? I don't know if thats a real thing. How's your fuel economy?
Could be a number of things. If I were you, I'd check the condition of the battery, the starter, and all the wiring to and around the starter. Maybe there's a poor connection somewhere that isn't allowing the starter to get as much power as it needs. |
if the battery is more than a couple years old it could be dying.

Battery is 3 months old, fuel mileage is around 14 to 17 in town, last week i got the AC working so i burned alot of fuel during diagnosing of the ac system and basking in the cool embrace of the goddess Freon after i got it fixed. the starter sounds normal but does speed up a little right before it starts. This reminds me of something i might have read somewhere. Does the regina ecu have to receive a signal from the alternator before it switches fuel or spark on? Let me go check something....... I just noticed that the alt light light goes out at the same instant the motor starts, maybe wrong cause and effect. but i dunno, Mike
