91' 240 overhaul
 

Hello, first post here. I've gathered pretty much everything I need to replace the head gasket, all the other gaskets and seals, the timing belt, new head bolts, new fuel injectors, and new accessory belts. I've already done the ignition with plugs/wires/rotor/distributor cap. Anything major I should consider doing while i'm into it that deep? Do I need to use gasket sealant or just gaskets? I tried to find a decent 531 head from the boat repair places around here but most of them didnt look too hot. I may save that for another day....Thanks for any advice!

when doing the belts, consider doing the idlers and tensioners. Also with all that out of the way, you may want to consider dropping in a new water pump if its original or of uncertain age.

Easiest HD you'll ever do... No sealant needed, what brand are you using? Do the 3 front seals, adjust the valves if needed...

I have a Beck/Arnley Head Gasket kit that came with everything I had already ordered previously....So I have an additional Fel-Pro valve cover gasket and a full set of valve hushers and seals from either Mahle or Fel-Pro...cant remember. I figured I would use the Beck/Arnley kit and I picked up new head bolts from Mahle. I think I am going to order new fuel pumps while I'm at it.

Should have both fuel pumps by Tuesday. I've had this car since I was in high-school and I'm 34 now so it's been a part of my life for a long time. The odometer stopped working at around 400k and I drove it for several more years until I parked it. I slowly have been gathering parts and pieces and now that I have the space, I figured it was time to show the old girl some appreciation. It'll have to be painted if I want to keep it but I'm starting with the mechanicals first. I'll have to do some cutting and welding to get the exhaust to pass inspection and it'll have to have tires but I'll cross those bridges when I get that far.
