92 240 B230F broken timing belt

Thanks everyone for the help :)

Ok, so I purchased special tool #5284 (to sabilize the crank pulley) and after bouncing on the socket wrench I was able to remove the crankshaft bolt. But now I cannot remove the pulley.

Is there a way remove the pulley without going and buying a crank puller?

Thank you,
ML

It should come off fairly easy once the bolt is removed, you may need to tap the pulley with a hammer.

If it doesn't come off with so well aimed tapping, you may also consider spraying a penetrant oil such as PB Blaster and allowing it to soak for an hour or two...

Ty,

Questions, questions!! Where do I tap on the pulley and where do spray penetrating oil? Can I pray all over since it's going to eventually evaporate leaving no residue anyway?

Spray around the area that you removed the bolt from. I would also tap in the same area. Remember there is rubber in between the outer pulley area and the center section. PB blaster will not evaporate.

Question Sorry to hijack this thread . Im changing out my alt belts and need to figuare how to remove the crankshaft belt. Do you need to remove the actual crankshaft bolt to remove the belt or do you loosen the starter /power steering pivot points /adjusters then pry the starter to remove the crankshaft belt? I have the newer crankshaft pulley one piece. not the two piece crankshaft pulley. THanks for the advice

Yes, you need to remove the crank bolt, harmonic balancer and lower plastic timing belt guard to get the belt off.

I posted this question on a different thread the car is a 240 stationwagon gas engine .the other thread they said to loosen the ac compressor which i did but the belt still doesnt remove. I guess your right . I have to remove that pulley bolt? The problem with the ac compressor its on a bracket that attaches to the engine. You cant move the bracket since its already against the engine. You need to basically unbolt the compressor from the bracket to remove the belt ? I have a socket to remove the pulley bolt . I just dont have the tool to lock the crankshaft in place. I read the nylon trick . Remve spark plug. insert nylon rope into cyclnder turn engine until it locks. automatic . place in nuetral and to remove pulley bolt counter clockwise?? thanks
