940 Sun roof leaks
 

My otherwise well kept 1993 Turbo Wagon is great with a few exceptions:
The sun roof leaks after the rain, unless I park it at a downward angle in my driveway.
The front drains therefore work, but the rear ones must not, because...well they don't.
My question is:
Do I have to remove the entire sun roof assembly to get to the back drains, or is there
a way to get to them without doing that? Is this a B or C pillar issue....?
Also my gas gauge, is intermittent, as is the speedometer.
Is there a magic bullet for this problem? I have partially removed the cluster to make sure the sure that the screws tighten the gas gauge on are secure,
and for a day it worked, then dropped out again (groaning sound from me).
This may mean a rebuild of the cluster, any thoughts out there?
Also: rear drivers' side (passenger) window doesn't work, I removed the switch and filed the contacts, still no action....any help would be MAJORLY APPRECIATED.

I believe the drains go down the C pillar, and if you remove the trunk side wall panels behind the 2nd row seats, I believe you can find the drain tubes, they are fairly flat clear vinyl(?) tubes about 3/4" in diameter. I've put the car up on ramps or a lift, and run a bicycle brake cable up the tubes from underneath the car

if you can confirm power is getting to the window motor, then the odds are pretty good the window issue is the motor/regulator assembly.

those instrument clusters get flakey with age, and I don't believe 92/93 can be interchanged with any other year or things are all fubar.

The roof leak: You have to drop the headliner to effectively clear the back drain tubes. Later models like yours don't have those tubes visible in the back. I park my '92 front downhill in rains, someday I'll drop the h/liner but it's no fun!

Speedo/gas gauge: You can try refloating the solder points in the back of the cluster circuit board, it often works but not always.

Power window: Does the window work with the front switch and not the rear? If neither works, then you need to take out the door panel test the motor. The glass might have separated from the lift, you won't know till you look. The motors rarely go bad...

Thanks so much for these ideas...I have to get motivated and test the motor. The previous owner said the DEALER couldn't find the solution to the window problem, not encouraging, but I'll take your advice, wish me luck. It's like I'm married to the thing, but at least this one doesn't wake me up in the middle of the night to talk....

When you say Headliner, do you mean the sun roof? or something else?

Don't get micro chipped

The headliner is what is covering the sunroof tray, the drain hoses are in the corners. You have to drop the headliner to access the hoses.
The window problem may be the wiring, chafing or cut somewhere. Open it up, it's not hard...

wagon headliners are particularlly annoying to remove as they are a large and rather fragile sandwich of cardboard, foam and vinyl... they are the 'ceiling' of the whole car, so you need to remove all the plastic interior trim all the way around the roof

The wagons are much easier as they slide out the back no problem. The sedans are the bad ones, you have to take out the seats and even then the brittle liner has to be maneuvered out the right rear door with no room to spare. If the car has a sunroof there is no way to get the old liner out without cracking it. In both sedans and wagons all the plastic trim has to come out, pillars, visor, handles, etc, no difference...
