95 940 radio wire colors

so i've got a 95 940 with factory radio and amp, i planned on installing my own aftermarket stereo and amp but have run into some difficulties...
i bought the metra harness (70-9220) sold at bestbuy for my car which had the 2 clips, one for the amp(under the steering column) bypass and the other for the radio - but neither match up - the audio folk told me it should work and the package said it was for 94-97 940s and 960s, so i'm not sure whats up with that, i've noticed some online retailers sell the exact same package for my car

if anyone else has come across this same issue, i'd love some advice on a differenct manufacturer or audio dealer that for sure has the right harness w/ factory amp bypass

and if not, my next option would be to directly wire it all to my own system, but the problem here is that i have been absolutely unable to find wire color codes that match the ones in my car (errrgg!)

any advice on taking this route would also be greatly appreciated...

i will ignore all posts telling me to take it to a professional install, i'm not one to give up that easy on something that is normally a relatively simple project

See if this company sells the same one you need. They are a pretty good company.

You might also want to give them a call aswell.

thanks for the link, but that is the exact same harness that best buy tried to sell me, which does not fit on my factory installs, any other suggestions?

I finally found one wiring diagram. Can you tell me what colors your speaker wires are.
This way I can make sure it is the correct one?

I had the same problem with my Crutchfield harness. The Crutchfield website has pictures of the two different harnesses that the Volvo radio could use, print the correct picture out and have Best Buy exchange it. www.crutchfield.com

Crutchfield sent me a new harness <<no charge>> that fit right up. (As the Brits say, it was a real doddle after that!) Great customer service by those guys, and prices are reasonable also.

RE: 95 940 radio wire colors

will i have to remove the door panels to find the speaker wires?

the wire colors leading to the back of the head unit are (from left to right):
top row
purple/white
brown

white
black/pink

orange

bottom row:
grey/red
grey

white/yellow
yellow/white

blue

small black
large black

grey/green

and i have no idea what each of these leads to especially when not all of them have obvious +- connections and i'm even more confused when it comes down to hard wiring them to my aftermarket which may not have a corresponding + and - wire

thanks for all the help, let me know if you need wire colors for the harness that lead to the factory amp

The door speaker wires come out of the amplifier plug...the dash "tweeters" were driven directly from the factory head unit.

Positive and negative were the same basic color, with one side having a contrasting stripe. That is important for proper speaker phasing.

I installed mine several months ago so I can't tell you the exact colors...
