AC fuse blows as soon as I start the car

I had my AC serviced for my1990 240. Pep boys first said they needed to replace the fan clutch which a agreed to before they filled the AC. $300 later and after they completed the drain and fill they said they had the AC blowing cold for 45 -60 minutes, but when they went to drive the car around the parking lot the fuse blew out. They said it would $100 to do the electiral diag and that it may be related to a faulty compressior. When I went to pick the car up there was no fuse in the fuse box but a blown 16A on the floor. The AC fuse is supposed to hold an 8A. At any rate I bought new fuses, turned the AC off and when I started the car the fuse immediatly blew out. I then tried a 16A and the same thing happened. Thus, although they told be that the AC was blowing cold for 45 mintues before the fuse blew out, now the fuse blows even when the AC is off. Also, I unpluged the electric going to the AC unit and the fuse still blows out upon ignition. The chart on the fuse box states that the reverse lights also runs off this fuse, but I noticed that the reverse lights work even when the fuse is removed from the socket.
Any advice would be greatly appreiciated.

RE: AC fuse blows as soon as I start the car

I would fight it out with Pep Boys. Generally thier service department sucks, so if they serviced your AC I would bet that this problem is a result of something they did. Was it blowing fuses before you brought it in?? If you fight with them long enough they might try to make it right.

You got a MAJOR short somewhere... and Pep Boys is a good place to start.
