Advice wanted on 1986 240
Hey guys I'm going to look at this volvo in a couple days:
https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details...dId=1427107815 Current owner is a Caterpillar mechanic, I've seen the car once and (aesthetics aside) its in beautiful shape. No rust (which is really rare here), engine seems to be running great, albeit a bit loud. I really have no experience with these cars although my last car was a '78 Mercedes 240D. Just wondering if there's anything specific I should look at for these cars like compression test, electrical areas, etc... Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |
yikes that certainly does seem to be a 'unique' example by the looks of it! i guess the first thing i would check you being in NS is to
make sure the heater/ac blower motor works well without squeaking etc., cause no doubt you will need it.... |
Sorry but I'd offer $500 and hope he would refuse it. How a person takes care of something says a lot about the condition of the rest of the car. It's a beater and by the looks of the exterior I can't imagine what the rest of the car is like. Just my opinion.

I would negotiate a better price. My 1986, that I just bought, not running, is in way better shape than that. I have bought many cars that were inflated on price and there is always wiggle room to be had.
Also take a good test drive. I bought a 90 Suburban not too long ago and the area that I bought it in, there were no roads safe or long enough to get the truck up to highway speeds. Found out as soon as I bought it that it would not go over 60MPH as it has SERIOUS shaking and shimmying... Ripped the front end apart and the upper and lower ball joints on both sides were toast. The PO told me it cruises at 70 fine. That was a case of getting a better vehicle outside and in to warrant letting that slide.... 0.02$$ Post pictures of interior after you see it... |

thats a carburetted 1982, not a 1986.

May be the rust is under the stickers... Doesn't seem like a great find, hard to say without more/better pictures.
