Antenna mast
 

I need to replace the electric antenna mast on my '92 745 GLA. Not much in the archives... Any tricks? Should I buy one from eEuroparts where I've bought the other 4 for my Saab? Thanks, C.

If you are having trouble with it retracting or extending what I would sugest doing is first confirm that the motor is not working. If you find that it is trying to do something help it manully and see if your antenna moves. If it does the next thing to do would be to extend it (helping the motor do it) then take some fine 300-600 sand paper or clothe and sand down the mast from top to bottom, then wipe it clean. Next take some sort of silicone lubricant and add a very slight layer of it to the anteena from top to bottom. Now finally retract and extend it sevral times. As long as the antenna is not bent this should work as I have done it many times with great success.

Easy to replace, usually... Should be around $20 for the mast. If the motor is OK (makes noise), then loosen the nut at the base, turn radio on and the mast, or piece of it, should shoot right out. Now, it gets tricky if there is a piece of the plastic toothed cablestill in the motor housing, and many times there is. Then you have to get the motor out, open it and get the piece out. Then, feed the new mast into the antenna hole while a helper turn on the radio. If all is well the motor will suck the plastic cable and the metal mast down and stop. Then tighten the nut at the base and that's it.
