Please tell me everything you know about the B230F engine.
A) Was this engine ever carbureted as opposed to F.I.? If so, where can i obtain a carbureted manifold? |

Well, as to my knowledge (I could be wrong) I don't think they were carburated... BUT!!!! I found out a Swedish site that turns the engine into carburated with 4 mouths of air intake... a very Hot Rod look!! I'll try to find it again and post it here, if that is what you want. What Volvo do you have? Post some pics!!

a) 85 740GLE non turbo; i am unable to post pictures at this point because my digital camera is not functioning. Will post as soon as another camera is procured. 2)If the B20,21 and 23 engines were similar, does this mean i can bolt a carbureted manifold from those engines on to my 85 B230F? |

Why would you want to change to a carburated version, the FI is superior in all aspects and is easy to work on once you understand it. You get more power and better fuel economy too with the FI.

These cars are gettting old now. So if you have one you will most likely have your share of electrical problems. But armed with a volvo wiring diagram, tim martins: How to diagnose and repair automobile electrical systems, and a little knowledge (from this forum) you should be able to fix whatever comes your way. Even though they are old they are so much better than the crap being sold out there today. The exception to this is honda and toyota who have my respect..... they are better in many respects except perhaps collisions and brakes. The volvo is my hands down winner here...They are built like tanks! I made the mistake of going through a red light a few years ago. In my own personal crash test the volvo is incredably strong.

B230f Engine Continued Interest
Can we keep this subject going? I've been a member but mostly a lurker over several years. And maybe a little late to the game. What are the pro's and con's to considering installation of a header for b21/b23 engine to a b230f?

the only substandard part of a volvo electric system was the 'biodegradable' wiring they used from circa 1983-1987. the EFI and stuff is perfectly good.
and yeah, indeed, a carb engine will both have less fuel economy AND less horsepower/torque, it won't run at all well at high elevations unless jetted for them (and then it will run crappy at lower elevations). you'll need to replace the fuel pumps, remove the catalytic converter (or you'll foul it in no time due to running too rich). |
