RE: Blown Headgasket

Option 1 would be to pull the head, and ascertain the extent of the damage. If just the gasket is blown, and it has not severely overheated and warped the head, or trashed main or rod bearings with an influx of coolant, then it is just a re-gasket job with a head re-surface , new valve seals, hushers etc.
Option 2 would be a good used low mileage motor from a donor car at the local junk/used parts yard.
Option 3 would be just get off the car, if the transmission is suspect, and/or body rust has taken over to the point where it is worth little anyway. A good mechanic should be able to give you an estimate of the damage ,if he knows what happened when it blew , ie. overheated, slow leak for months, and then take a look at the coolant, look at engine oil, and have a pretty good idea without opening it up as to the cost of repair.
