Check engine light on

Check engine light on
So, many months ago I accidently started my 240 wagon with my foot fully pressed down on the gas instead of the break pedal, upon which there was a very loud revving sound and my "check engine" light came on. I checked my engine many times and never found anything wrong with it.
I also took it to a professional mechanic who deals solely with Volvos, and he got the light to turn off saying that there wasn't anything noticeably wrong. The next day, however, the check engine light popped back on. It is still on to this day.
Any reasons why?
Thanks.

Totally off topic for pre 96 cars but it has to do with the CE lights.
The Advanced Auto Store said the main office came in and took out all the tools, especially the OBD reader. They said some employee trashed a high end Benz computer with it and now the stores are out of the DYI business.
My question is if you're paying $400,000 for your car what the heck are you doing at Advance auto parts letting some kid service it and
b) is this everywhere or just Miami?
