Conversion to the new R-134A refrigerant
i have heard that upgrading does help the a/c. plus upgrading allows you to recharge your a/c when u need to as they sell r134a refridgerant. freon on the other hand is less available and hard to find. id upgrade just as a way to have a system that could be fixed or recharged with no problem.

RE: Conversion to the new R-134A refrigerant
I'm new with volvo air condition recharge. Is their someone that can assist me in the location where the freon or R-134a is located to recharge the system.I'm trying to locate the valve to add R-12.My system is bone dry and i do have R-12.Basically i bought a 1987 volvo 240 wagon from a auction in philadelphia, and the car is clean 100%.

RE: Conversion to the new R-134A refrigerant
I went to advance auto parts and got myself a retrofit kit. Retrofit Kit from Advance Autoparts (hope the link works for you) Then I made sure the r12 was out and just put this stuff in. Yes it was cold and worked pretty well
Good luck,

RE: Conversion to the new R-134A refrigerant
I tried this stuff called evro 12. Its colder than feron, lot colder than 134. And if you opened up your a/c system your don't have put it on a vaccumm. My system was open for months. Now a/c temp is 36 degrees. Also 6 oz equals 18 of freon, which means less work for compresser and better gas mileage. Found on the web searching eviro12 site called auto refridgerants. conversion kit with everything you need 39.00
ps if you use 134 in a 12 system. You have to underfill it or it will blow your sys and change oil type or you will have problems in the long run.

keyfoo,
Do I understand that if you use the evro 12, instead of R134, you don't need replace anything else? (gaskets, oil lubricant, etc). Did you experince any leak in the A/C after the rechatge?
Where do get the evro12. I have 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo. Tried to charge it with the R134. However, it didn't hold the chage for long. There must be a leak somewhere.
Thanks

hey volvoman
134 stuff can be non-compatiable and if it had oil in the 134usally pag oil in may eat your o-rings, i heard this. most 12 sys use mineral oil or ester oil.
es-12a is compatable with all systems all oils.
Ive used this in my 240dl 86 with no problems. My dads 92 towncar was converted to 134 sys
and after 6 mos it leaked. I fixed the leak put es-12a and it almost 40% cooler plus 134 he never really felt cold. Its been in 82 supra for 2 yrs now with no problems. it was 90 today and ac temp was 38 degrees.
I put in about a dozen cars and no problems.
best thing about the es 12a you dont have to put the a/c system on a vaccumm
and found this product on a/c forum which said never put 134 in a 12 sys.
theres another product called freeze 12 but Ive hed its just 134 with propane in it.
I did a web search "enviro 12" found a web site call www.autorefridgents.com or close to it.
has all the info you need and cheapest to order from

RE: Conversion to the new R-134A refrigerant
Kayfoo,
I did a little investigation of the company which sells the enviroSafe stuff. They are called "Better technology Trust"
http://www.btt.org/
This is a Christian organization, which also solocits Internet Service, etc. They are NOT registered business in the State of nevada, nor in the City of Las Vegas.
Although Better Business Bureau, has no negative comments on them. Here is the link to BBB's site and their comments on this organization.
http://worf.usshurdman.com/~vegas/co...l?compid=50942
I am not questioning this business. However reading on them a bit make me a bit uneasy.
thanks for the recommendation anyway.

RE: Conversion to the new R-134A refrigerant
hey volovman
Ive never done any research on this company . and it would scared me with the results of your research. I do not promote christian values or sell this product, but it does work and it is very cold, and easy to use. Ive received my orders in a timely maner and received no chirstian spam.
ps if anyone has change to 134-a, I belive you do not have to order the kit. low side in the kit is like the 134a and and connect hose s/b the same but call and ask first.

No, no. I did not suggest that you are connected to this company at all. It is comforting to read that you had good experience with their delivery and use of the refrigerant. It is just strnage that, a regligious based outfit, sells automotive products.
I plan to call them in the near future to order the enviro12 stuff. Thanks anyway.
