Fog/driving Lights in 740?

I have recently swapped the headlamps and grille from a 960 into my 740, including the fog/driving lights. There is a plug in the 740 lighting harness for the fog lamps and an interior switch for the high intensity tail light. However, I can not figure out how to get the headlamps to light!
Am I missing something (I even swapped switches)?
Thanks,
Andrew

you need to replace the dashboard switch with the 3-way one used on a frnt-fog car, and you need to add a foglamp relay to the main relay panel.

Actually, the Front Fog cars use the same switch as the No Fog cars; there is a separate dual function Front/Rear Fogs switch instead of the regular rear fog one...
Not sure about the wiring...

BTW, Admasters, how did you handle the different fender contour where the corner lights butt up the lip? Love to see a photo!

my 92 740 came with just rear fogs, but the socket that the switch plugs into, and the rest of the car, was fully wired for front fogs.

for clarification

Hi guys,
Thanks for the quick reply! I have the three way switch from the donor car, so all I need to do is find the relay and plug it in.
I will post a pic shortly. I am in the process of swapping interiors.

While I've got your attention, I can't seem to get good air flow from the dashboard registers. I checked the vacuum connection on the heater control valve, but can't be sure it was installed (previously) in the right direction. It is upside down compared to the donor 960. (flow into heater core or flow out of heater core?)

the fitting thats under the intake manifold goes to the heater valve then to the lower heater core connection, then the return line goes from the upper heater core connection back to the head around the back. so the flow direction at the valve is 'up'.

but that has nothing to do with the airflow flappers.

Cool, thanks Pierce. Do you know what the vacuum hose that connects to the valve is for?

the heater valve? that opens/closes it, it comes from the heater control panel in the dashboard.

Here is the headlamp / foglight swap, complete and working (thanks guys). I had to include the trim from the 960 (just under the lamps) because the 740 trim is a different shape.

I'd say that worked well. Looks like they belong on that car.

Looks alright!
Are these corner lights from the 960, or the 740?

admasters 12-07-2013 05:56 PM

corner to corner from the 960

I had to swap out some of the bracketing material in the fascia, it's important to note that the 740 had the "single bucket" headlamps, not sealed beams.

pierce 12-07-2013 06:00 PM

and I was told repeatedly by folks whom I expected to know that you could NOT swap out the single rectangular plastics for the 960 style fogs, that the fender lines and hood 'beak' were different, not just the grill and trim strip. go figger.

I have a 1992 740 w/ the single rectangulars.

thanks for the tips

I found the relay in the 960 and popped that and the switch in. Everything works perfectly.
