fogs on my 7!
finally installed some aftermarket foglights on my 740 turbo wagon...
http://pierce.smugmug.com/By-Date/20...MG_0124-XL.jpg I used Hella Micro-DE foglamps, with Hella Yellowstar H3 bulbs. http://pierce.smugmug.com/By-Date/20...IMG_0122-M.jpg (that picture taken before I recessed the back of the lamp into the skirt so that it would adjust level). |
nice!
where did you get those? |
sweet! did you just drill holes into the bumper? how did you get the power to it?
|
Amazon :)
I got the single microde lamps for $50 each, instead of the kit w/ the harness for $135. my 740 was already wired for fogs, I just needed to replace the rear-only foglight switch with a front/rear one from a upscale 940, and install a relay in the relay panel, then wire these to the stock fog wires that were tiewrapped to the headlight harness. yeah, drillled a hole for the bolt and another for the cable in the bumper skirt. and I had to dremel out a recess/hole so the back end of the light could go higher so the beam would be lower. |
How can I add a power source in my 240? And I guess I would need a separate switch for the front fogs then? Is there a specific relay that is needed for this?
|
afaik, a 240 isn't wired for fogs, so you're on your own. hella sells these with a harness, you connect to the battery, the harness has its own fuse, and relay, comes with a switch you can put somewhere on your dashboard (or find a volvo switch and mount and use that instead), and you connect a 'control' wire to the low beam (or parking lights, if you want to be able to run the fogs without the headlights, and/or with the highbeams)

look behind the headlights, there should be a 2-pin connector plugged into nothing tiewrapped to the headlight harness.
you'll need to get the 3-position fog switch to replace your 2-position rear fog switch, and the foglight relay that plugs into the mani relay panel behind the glove box, middle row, 2nd position from left. |
I had to cut a hole in the front bumper underskirt, so the back of the lamp could go up, so it sits level. I used a dremel with a coarse sanding drum to shape it. I don't have new pictures, but picture the back of this light recessed into the bumper skirt...
http://pierce.smugmug.com/By-Date/20...MG_0122-XL.jpg ignore the white streak on the bumper. I had bronze wet-brushed, and wet sanded the front bumpers to remove the faded white surface, but missed that spot on the bottom corner, and I need to rough-sand that whole skirt down.. |
