Heater Control Trim Removal
 

I have a '87 Volvo 740 GLE, and I need to use the defrost, but the lever is stuck on the left hand side something is preventing it from moving to the right. I need to remove the heater control trim so I can see why the lever is stuck.

Pry off the surround trim piece, gently, with a small flathead, and this will expose the control box which is attached with four screws. Undo those, the sliders then will be visible and will see what's binding. Usually something is broken--parts are plentiful in the DIY junkyards.
