Default Should I use premium gas for my 1988 740 non-turbo?

I've always used the cheapest gas available, but now that my car is passed the 300k mile mark, I want to make it last. Is using premium gas a good idea for a 1988 740 GLE non-turbo?

Premium gasoline is no better for a car than regular. It's only claim to fame is it doesn't explode quite as easily, making it appropriate for higher compression engines and or motors with advanced timing.
