Default 940 odometer/speedo not working

My 1994 940 odometer and speedo do not work.

I changed/cleaned and re-soldered rear wire harness, checked voltage at back tamper box and from cluster speedo connector. Voltage rises and lowers smoothly and resistance looks good.
I opened speedo and could not see any broken gears or leaking caps, it's a Yakazi. I also sprayed contact cleaner, cleaned and tightened all cluster screws.

I did notice upon taking out cluster that 3 screws are missing, I believe for the abs system as one of them leads to a =/- terminal on speedo connector, and the ABS light bulb is missing.
Will the odo/speedo function without the ABS screws in, or was it simply a model without ABS?

I'm currently either buying a new speed sensor, as maybe it's signal is not strong enough?
Or I'm trying to find some screws,
or a new speedo or instrument cluster

I had read the abs uses the same rear sensor, and if you unplug it, you should see the light. Anyone know if perhaps those abs screws were removed or jiggled out causing my problem? Im looking for salvage parts/screws currently.

also a mechanic did a general look over for me and said the speed sensor was faulty, but i tested voltage from two places. I also pulled the sensor and cleaned it. Hard to believe such a simple component would be the main fault. Unless the permanent magnets lose their magnetism?

Once, after recently buying the car, the speedo worked for a couple minutes. So im still unsure, maybe a not obvious speedo electrical/mechanical issue.

anyone in US use a gps based speed/odo?
Id like to do that, some have a compass and other features. Cool😃 thanks yall.

Pretty sure your ABS is inop based on what you write. That car has ABS but sounds like the PO just took out the bulb. You should test it. SOme GPS app may be your best bet.

It's well known that 1991/1992 speedos for 740's n 940's had leaking capacitors that made them malfunction. I've tried to replace/resolder myself but it only worked some of the time. Recently my '93 940 stopped working, which surprised me because of upgrades made for that year. But when I pulled the speed I could see acid burns from the capacitors and no amount of cleaning helped. you can have them rewired for around $200. I found a good working one at the picknpull for $20.

The abs light was removed, and looks like 3 screws on cluster related. Maybe po didnt like the abs rumble and removed its functionality, also causing the missing speed sensor signal code and non functioning speedo/odo? Its def receiving smooth voltage from rear as I checked while driving.
Not really needed i guess, i just ordered a 30 dollar gps based one and I cant find salvaged screws or ones worth shipping to hawaii. Thanks for the replies.
