How much does a free Volvo 245 cost?

$45 for tow dolly. $200 for windshield. $300 for calipers, master cylinder, fluid, cleaner, $100 battery, $145 for parts car. (that was the best 145 ever spent) $50 fuel pump, $100 at Harbor freight for misc stuff.(mity m pump for suction bleeding a bit of a failure.) $15 new fuses, $15 for fuse block. $25 for deox cleaner.
$45 Bentley manual, $20 for respirator filters to vacuum out 10+ years of rat poop.
Down to getting the odometer working to get car thru inspection. Tailgate wiring harnesses are on the list as well. I see that people recommend running the wiring ala the 940's, on the inside.
Every time I am ready to haul off the parts car another problem pops up, like replacement of front wiper motor. Will pull rear
I remember reading in this forum "they are all $3000 cars."
Are the rear tailgate hinges worth pulling? My fuse block shows great oxidation, perhaps due to the fact that it had non brass fuses. Is the clean spare fuse block worth the trouble swapping in? will the oxidation be recurring?
If I pull the 5 spd from the parts car do I need to save the driveshaft as well, because my car is a aw70?

They typically are "$3000 cars", even more if you factor in the time spent getting a cheapy up into a $3k car. Thats still not too bad though compared to a number of other old beaters out there.

You should just save about anything you can from the parts car, it'll save you time in the long run. Heck if you have a welder cut out the floors while you're at it if they're still any good, save any decent trim too to avoid any ebay robberys. Do run the wiring inside if its broken on your car, I setup my my last few wagons like that. Funnily enough newer Subarus have had their wiring break.in a very similar fashion at the hinge.

I like to think of it as buying a part of car, then you get to add the rest to make it a whole car. With these 30 yrs old Volvos unless you do the work yourself, a "project" you take to a shop in the hope of getting help, chances are you are gonna pay too much to make it worth it. Plenty of $500 Volvos out there that will cost plenty to make decent if you pay $100/hr., and retail for new parts, usually it makes no sense unless the owner does it himself and enjoys the journey.
