How to set timing on a '92 940T, B23F motor...
A guy I know purchase a '92 940T and tried to replace the timing belt. He somehow is stuck with the belt off and does not know how to set the timing. I have not gone to look at it. He said it has a B23F and need some help. Can anyone tell me how to properly set the timing so I'm not guessing when I go try to help him?

Just like the others ....top pully (cam) Lines up with a small dash or timing mark located behind the cam gear...its on the black backing plastic behind the gear.
12 o-clock Intermediate shaft ...This one goes to the right as your working on it ...again line up the mark on the back of the plastic cover with the mark on the gear. 3 o-clock Crank ...this is again just like what your use to...besides there is no actual timing mark on the crank. Its the groove that hold the gear on....that lines up with a mark just a tad before 12 o-clock and that line is cased on the block just like the other ones your use to ...Note there are two casting lines so don't get confused the line should be around the 12-o-clock zone. you will see the line actually recesses out where the two marks line up. |
