If it still runs and drives like you say....sell it complete....It would be so much easier. If I lived closer I'd come rescue it from what your about to do.
My take on the situation....you'll do what you want.

Thinking like that can cause a divorce! My brother, who is a mechanic, has slowly been fixing the floor, and has replaced the rear tail light assemblies with leds...there's just no end to the expense...more rivets, more sheet metal, the front seat-which is still very comfortable, looks just plain "vergammelt" as my wife says...she's pulling the plug on our project.
I am sentimentally attached. It has saved me about $3,000 in gas bills from 2005 up until 2010 when I got deployed overseas and no one on the home front was brave enough to drive it anymore. I love the way it handles. It tracks "dead on". You can turn it on a dime and never have to pay attention to speed limits posted on sharp turns. I really love the electric shifter button that takes it in and out of overdrive.
It's probably another $300 from being able to pass a safety inspection, and who would want it besides another real fanatic like you or me? If you live in Indiana, I'm sure it could make the trip (and on less than 50 gallon) s but again, then you'd be the one getting divorced!!
