inserting B230 distributor
Hi Everybody,
I seem to be having trouble pulling the overhead distributor into the back of the overhead camshaft. The large green O-ring is showing, even after the 10 mm bolts have been tightened down. Is this O-ring supposed to be swallowed by the cavity on the back of the camshaft? Or is this O-ring just a press fit against the back of the camshaft? Thanks. |
I have a 86 240 wagon and the plastic cap or plug just pushes in after I have installed valve cover etc
but you have a 740 with a distributor cap atop right? |

I'm talking about the distributor (bottom) plate where the Hall sensor sits. This cast aluminum plate has a shaft with locking key and large green O-ring. I've attached a photo.

fixed it
The key is offset, so I rotated the key 180 degrees.

Good you got it sorted out, I arrived too late to let you know!
The key is offset because earlier distributor in head engines used a crank angle sensor mounted in the distributor. Ensuring distributor goes in only one way is important. Of course, with LH2.4 and the flywheel sensor, it's irrelevant, but still there. Regards, Andrew. |
