Installing a Car alarm

As the title reads i am trying to install a car alarm but needless to say i have zero clue now how to do it. It is a viper alarm system if that's any help

after market car alarms are /evil/. I won't buy a used car that has had an aftermarket alarm installed as every one I've owned has caused problems down the road.

but... RTFM, surely this 'viper' has an instruction manual. if you can't understand it, find someone who does, preferably someone familiar with older volvos.

I'm trying to figure out why anyone would want to put a car alarm on an old volvo. The question is who would want to steal it.
OK if you don't have the instructions I'm sure they can be found on the inter net. It shouldn't be that difficult but you take the risk that it may end up locking the owner out .

There is no reason for a car alarm. No one will likely steal the vehicle and if they do, insure for your loss.

The other reason is that a vehicle will an aftermarket car alarm is typically a no sale for whomever is interested.

I've watched several videos where the owner's car was towed in due to a malfunctioning aftermarket alarm. The fix is to cut it out and rewire.

Save yourself the aggravation. Don't those cars have a baseline alarm system anyway?

i don't believe any 240/740/940 had a factory alarm. 850's did, I think our S90 did, too.

back in the day we used to take out the distributor rotor.. that was our anti car theft device lol..

my brother installed a hidden switch for the fuel pumps on his seriously tweaked up 240Z... if someone tried to hot wire it and drive it, it would start (rather loud with the glass packs) and get about 100 ft before it would run out of gas

I leave my car unlocked - take it - please

Despite none of the replies really answering your question...this has to be the most honest thread of replies you'll find.

I agree with everyone though. You're just going to butcher the OEM wiring, which will probably turn out to be an immobilizer. If you can't drive your car, no one else can either.

I just use this sticker from Dave Barton on the drivers side rear window...

As a side note this sticker ( my personal favorite ) from Dave sits on the dash above where the glove box USED to be...

My '92 940 is something of a hoopty at this point.

No need for one. Use a Club if you must or take out the dist. wire... Don't cut up the wiring for sake of avoiding future problems.
