K cam question
 

I have a '92 240 wagon and would like a bit more power. I have found a K cam for a good price that I have read will help open up the engine.

My question is about the distributor placement. Can I simply put the K cam in without machining anything? I see lots of people hint at something about the cam driven distributor but not a solid answer.

I understand the K cam will bump the power band up but I do LOTS of highway driving so I'm not worried. I plan on using and adj cam gear with this if it will fit.

What I know is this:

Had an 87 240 wagon with bad head
Replaced complete head from a 740 that have the distributor on cam...I just unscrewed it off and put the rubber (full moon) cap on the back and that was it....

If you were to use the distributor from a 740...I GUESS YOU WOULD NEED TO KNOW IF THE HALL SENSOR CONNECTOR WOULD BE THE SAME AS THE 24O CONNECTOR TO THE BLOCK DISTRIBUTOR...and obviously splice and run to the back of head...
see pictures of the 740 distributor with two screw holes on each end that would connect to your 240 head....

A. Your 240 has a block mount distributor
B. The swap is plug and play; be sure to check clearance as you may need to swap some shims.
C. Yes, it will shift the power band up; I would not advance the cam timing until you drive the car a bit and see how you like it. Too many people swap cams and automatically jack with cam timing. Understand this...advancing or retarding the cam timing is actually an admission that the cam installed is not the right one. Admittedly, finding one cam that does it all is tough. If you're not happy with the K, you might consider a T from a stock turbo motor. It has a bit more low end grunt w/o adversely affecting top end. It does fall on its face around 5200-5500, but assuming you're running an auto, it's a non-issue.
