Knocking while turning

Good evening everyone. Ive recently purchased a '92 240. It was very inexpensive so I looked past some of the cosmetic flaws.

Driving it home tonight i found that at 45-50 mph if im slightly turning the steering wheel there is a strong, rapid knock coming from the front wheel being turned away from. At slow speeds i dont hear it at all.

Anyone have any ideas? Im not handy, but im willing to learn on my new toy. Also is it dangerous to continue driving or just a pain in the butt?

Thanks in advance!

RE: Knocking while turning

Jack the front end up ,jackstand it , get the wheels a couple inches off the ground, lever the wheels up and down with a pipe or 2x4 between ground and bottom of tire and watch the suspension, look for balljoint slop, tie rod end radius arm bushings etc.
See of theres any slop by grabbing top and bottom if tire and try rocking it.

Also, does it happen if you are touching the brake pedal?
Does it happen in both directions?
Raise the car higher ,have someone yank on the tires whilst you look at the steering rack ends and associated steering links. I can usually find a problem like this, use a lever to check for slop, pulling things by hand isn't enough force.

RE: Knocking while turning

Could also be front wheel alignment. Is there any snow or ice stuck inside the wheels.
